"Councilmen Say Their Wards Mass-Ticketed in Retaliation for Police Contract Vote"

http://cranston.patch.com/groups/politics-and-elections/p/councilmen-say-their-wards-targeted-with-parking-ticket-frenzy-over-police-contract-vote

'An internal investigation is underway at the Cranston Police Department after allegations that police officers were ordered to aggressively issue tickets in wards represented by City Council members who voted against a new police contract last month.

The allegations came to light in nine pages of documents released by City Councilman Steve Stycos at the end of Monday night's City Council meeting, including two anonymous letters purporting to be from rank and file members of the department. They suggest the directive came from Capt. Stephen Antonucci, also the president of the Cranston police union, in apparent retaliation for votes against the contract."

keeping police at below par wages.

The better police salaries, the more money in the community. Police, fire fighters, garbage collectors...all city/county employees are getting the shaft these days.

I deliver newspapers in Cranston and one morning around 3:30, there were cops all over my route, ticketing every single car parked on the street overnight (there isn't supposed to be overnight parking.) I just figured they had to make a quota or something.

I don't live in Cranston, I live in the next city over, so I had no idea what was happening.

8. Not all police are right wingers. Sounds like the City Council doesn't respect city workers, to me.

And it sounds like city workers, in this case the police, showed them some retaliation.

There are a huge number of cops that are GREAT cops! Not all cops are "bad" or right wingers. In fact, a great many of them support legalizing pot, and getting out of the drug war.

I'm not anti-cop AT ALL!! I'm anti cops who abuse their authority. In this case, they targeted cars that weren't supposed to be there anyway, but only in districts where the cheap city council members lived, who didn't want to pay the cops (probably the city council members were right wingers, because we KNOW they have no respect for city/government workers) .
