I thought some might want to read this article. Apparently Texas is moving to close down 6 charter schools due to low performance?

(37,549 posts)might hesitate to close is the one that takes in older students that have failed in other schools. From the article it seems like that one, Youthworks, has financial reporting issues as opposed to performance problems.

(2,674 posts)When the schools opened, it was in the paper that a reality show was going to be filmed about Dion Sanders and his schools. I don't that that ever happened, too bad, it would have been a real soap opera. Dion has been fired, then rehired, then fired again and is supposed to be rehired again. He got in a fight with a employee at a board meeting and tried to choke the man. The superintendant resigned, another person was hired, she lasted 3 weeks and she was fired. Ron Price, a former Dallas School board member was hired just this week to be the latest superintendent. When he was a school board member, he was pushing a company to use for computer training because they were giving the kids FREE computers. Duh - Free? Stay tuned, more twists and turns to come, if the schools can stay open long enough. All brought to you by the tax payers of Texas

(3,744 posts)I couldn't believe all that was going on. In fact until I read an article about all the happenings I had no idea Dion Sanders was involved in any charter schools in Dallas. It sounds like he was more of the public "face" for the school.
I really despise my tax dollars going to private institutions when it should be going to public schools. Public schools at least are all inclusive where charters tend to pick and chose. They also have experienced teachers with degrees in education where charters employ people that complete a six week course. That's the biggest joke of all.
They say everybody can go but people know differently. It's just one big scam to move public money to the private sector.
