i was once fired for something i said

At the time was working for child protective services. I told the commissioner that our agency had homeless kids in our custody and that the kids needed placement asap.
Kids in the counties custody should never be homeless. My boss didn't want the commissioner to know about the homeless kids. He fired me when he was told that I had complained about the homeless kids.
Eventually the commissioner changed some policies that helped keep foster kids from bring homeless.
I said something and paid the price. But at least something good came out of my losing my job - the kids were eventually taken better care of.

overnight because of lack of funding and the long-standing placements were shut down.

The caseworkers took them to school and back and fed them, watched after them until it was quitting time. Legally, that was all they could do.

They allowed a reporter to reveal the problem to the public with no cover up. Just a lot of conservatve legislators who just ignored it.

Now with the ACA, although there is not a huge influx of money, those in the most need are getting a place to live, but some older programs are going away. There is always a gap.

Good for you for standing up for the children. And best wishes to the Carter campaign!
