MetaData and FISA court

What business is it of the federal government to collect this metadata on American citizens? Am I suspect because I am a Verizon subscriber? Does the government consider all Americans potential suspect if they collect metadata on all Americans?

As far as the FISA court goes, Chief Justice John Roberts, right wing judicial appointee of George W Bush the Lesser, appoints the judges to the FISA court. Some people on this board have complained that the judge who ruled this week is a right wing Bush appointee and that makes this ruling somehow bad. If it's bad for federal judiciary to make rulings because they come from a right wing judge, what does that make for rulings from the FISA court?

Also, the FISA court only hears one side: the federal governments ie the NSA. One of the reforms I would like to see on this court is that there are advocates for the other side that will raise objections when the government goes too far.
