I never thought UT would be forging the way on this issue. Salt Lake Tribune Opinion section is clearly showing a giant melt down...some Counties (including the one dominated by BYU and it's alumni) are refusing to perform marriages until the ruling is confirmed by the Ut Attny General's Office. Panic is clearly escalating their faith in the 'system' that is supposed to be protecting their hetero marriage from the debilitating effects of the gay.
I'm smiling. Feeling like a visit to my lovely gay neighbors will be in order.

(111,261 posts)its own constitution, I still find myself shuddering at the orchestrated handwringing punctuated by wailing and death threats from the Mormons.
Here in NM, people mostly yawned. Reaction has been subdued except for those jubilant couples who were finally allowed to marry as early as last August when urban counties became test counties.
The sky failed to fall so nobody reacted much to the state supreme court ruling earlier this week.

meanwhile, people are continuing to get married. Mayor of Salt Lake City is performing some of the ceremonies.

(18,672 posts)I lived in SLC for many years and was convinced Utah would be the very last state (if ever) to allow equal marriage. I'm so happy for the couples who've been waiting to marry, and fervently hope the ruling today stands. It must!
