The United States Department of Justice releases Police Dog Encounter training
Earlier today the United States Department of Justice released a new training protocol designed to help the men and women on the police force gain the knowledge needed to assess whether a dog poses a real threat or danger to them while serving and protecting the public.
The course consists of 5 short informational videos, and a 45 page companion eBook. Charles Ramsey, Commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department stated, “This series of videos is long overdue and will go a long way toward giving officers the tools they need to avoid potentially dangerous situations and to avoid unnecessary loss of people’s pets."
The National Canine Research Council (NCRC), in partnership with Safe Humane Chicago, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office), have funded and developed, this training course.
The course is voluntary at this time, but the public may contact their local police department or public officials to implement the training in their area."
