"The Ice Bear"

WASHINGTON (Dec. 19, 2013)—Proof, National Geographic’s online photography experience, has announced the winners of the 2013 National Geographic Photography Contest. A stunning photograph of a polar bear peering up from beneath the melting sea ice on Hudson Bay as the setting midnight sun glows red from the smoke of distant fires has captured the grand prize. The photographer of “The Ice Bear” is Paul Souders of Seattle, Wash. He has won $10,000 (USD) and a trip to National Geographic headquarters in Washington, D.C., to participate in the annual National Geographic Photography Seminar in January 2014.

I don't like the idea of being a polar bear's lunch!

Props to the bravery of the people who risk so much to educate the rest of us on the beauty of our world!

Red sun from fires in the distance.......

I hate what we, in our massive numbers, are doing to the rest of the lives on this planet.

There's a song by Dave Matthews. ... I can't listen anymore because it's too sad....

Here's a snip from it.

I saw a bear on TV and his friends were all drowning cause their homes were turning to water...

A strange, kinda sad, big old bear surely would happily eat me he'd tear me to pieces that bear...

Wake up, sleepy head.I think the suns a little brighter today
Smile and watch the icicles melt away and see the water rising...
Summers here to stay, and all those summer games will last forever
Go down to the shore, kick off your shoes, dive in the empty ocean.

========

He'd tear me to pieces that bear....

This is how we distance ourselves from the creatures and what we do to them.
