It was more in the name of St Paulus than Emperor Constantine.. At it was in the context of what should become of women who wanted to speak in the room if a man had the word - St Paulus should then ha stated that a woman should be quiet in the room - and not talk back to a man.. I guess even in ancient time - strong headed woman could be some of a "problem" for some men - specially if the woman had some education to boot...

Emperor Constantine on the other hand - was for the most of his life not even a christian - even though he supported the early Church - specially after many of the church leaders in the West and the East, put their faith in him because he was seen as the lesser evil - after all, the christians had been prosecuted for a couple of centuries - as many emperors was not to found of the new religion who speak about peace and non violence - in a world where you really was in need of violence and war... The Roman Empire as it was was from 280 and forward to at least 450 - in the west the Roman Empire sized to exist ca 476 - after the last emperor was "retiring" and the symbols of the roman emperor in the west given to the Eastern Empires capital Constantinople - later Byzantine..

The early Church was by 300 a power to reckon with - specially after the emperors finally had accepted the church as one of the religions they had to accept - not that it was a easy way for either of them - but until Constantine it was always a danger for the christian church - as some emperor was less inclined to support the church than others.... Constantine was also one of the emperors who made it possible for Church leaders from Europe - Asia and Africa to come together - and to decide the doctrines of faith. Something that was not easy - as specially the Church leaders in the east do had more knowledge about the religion - and also had the ability to get people on their side in doctrinal issues - at one time when the holy leaders from west and east was on others throat - Emperor Constantine had to threatened to send in the guard - to clean the room - it cooled the hot heads down somewhat - even though they never really managed to get all the details ironed out - and the differences in doctrinal understanding between the west and east should never really be solved - even today it is doctrinal differences between the Eastern Church - the Orthodox Church's and the western Church's - and now I am not even talking about the Protestant Church's out there - but the chaotic church....

Constaine was many things - but not a cult leader - he was a pragmatic leader - and Emperor who wanted to make sure he was on the right side of history - and the church should grow greatly in his time as Emperor - but it is important to point out that the Emperor himself- was not baptized before he was a old man... Mostly because in the ancient world - in the young church (who by the 3 century might not be that young anymore) hold a belief, if you baptized yourself at the end of life - you would come to heaven as a innocent man/woman.. Without the stain from life.. And Emperor Constantine do had a few stains from life...

I am not in favor of censorship, but networks are always deciding which shows to air and which ones to ignore.. Hopefully a corner has been turned and execs will start to think of the cultural damage they do when they glorify this "style" of programming.

The family is a carefully scripted stereotype.

That we should be praising anyone involved with this fraud shows how confused television gets people.

How people miss the fact this is a modern day minstrel show is the biggest mystery.

This family is fake fake fake and the people involved are laughing all the way to bank.

In case you missed dusty's take on it, check it out..Pay particular attention to the last minutes where he distills this media event to its essence.

CNN invited Glenn Beck on to Piers Morgan's program last night so he could spew some of his racist, scrambled eggs philosophy.
Piers wasn't there, instead they had someone else interviewing him.

It's interesting to note that the timing of this totally over-the-top interview came out so close to Christmas, so now I think it is more of a marketing ploy that went completely astray and now they have to pay the consequences.

"Conservative “Duck Dynasty” patriarch Phil Robertson was caught flapping his gums in an anti-gay tirade three years before his suspension for similar remarks.
A video captured the gray-bearded reality show icon clutching a Bible in his right hand while roundly condemning homosexuality at a 2010 Pennsylvania church dinner."

The bttom line is, the Robertsons were given a gravy train, and Phil chose to tick off customers by opening his big fat mouth.

Now, fakery aside, let's assume this duck call biz is a real buisness (it's not like the tooth fairy is buying all that gear.) If I was running the duck call buisness, and Phil did something to make people not want to buy my products, I would fire him. Phil, you think there are not LGBT types that Duck Hunt?

http://www.gayoutdoors.org/cfforum/viewmessages.cfm?Forum=9&Topic=992

You think Bass Pro Shops does not sell to Gay people Phil?

Now, this is just the damned Duck gear biz, a trade that it not geared for everyone; TV, however IS. Phil knew his comments would be broadcast from sea to shining sea, and knew he could offend a lot of customers. No one is jailing him for what he said, but if you earn privilege based on people liking you, on people wanting to asscoiate themselves with your image, then you have to know that risking that image is deadly. Now, sometimes it pays off, after all, Miley Cyrus has made a lot of money shedding the Hannah montana image, but more often, messing with your image fails.

I will say one other thing, if the CEO was around back when Dig the Bounty hunter imploded, I will tend to be harsher in my judgement. If she was around for that implosion, then she should have been more careful vetting the Roberstons, and giving them the "don't shoot yourself in the foot" lecture.
