stupid question: Where did we get the whole Caveman clubing woman and dragging her by the hair?

I've seen that comic in many images throughout my life but yet it is now with the rape culture talks and various attacks on women reproductive rights that comic has really been on my mind lately and it had me thinking. Even that comic shows women as objects for males to own.

"that's what we'd do if we didn't have these stupid rules"

But treatment of women does not necessarily correlate to rules or technology or civilization
