Serafin Norcik, Phillip Morris Sr. Vice President for Marketing said in an interview that the company has been high on the idea of marketing cannabis, and has been monitoring the market for some time. It was only when the recent legalization initiatives winning in Colorado and Washington that they finally made the decision to take a leap of faith.
Norcik added that they have begun contacting former drug lords in Mexico and Paraguay, currently the largest marijuana-producing countries ............

LOS ANGELES (AP) Eric Lawson, who portrayed the rugged Marlboro man in cigarette ads during the late 1970s, has died. He was 72.
Lawson died Jan. 10 at his home in San Luis Obispo of respiratory failure due to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, his wife, Susan Lawson said Sunday.
Lawson was an actor with bit parts on such TV shows as "Baretta" and "The Streets of San Francisco" when he was hired to appear in print Marlboro ads from 1978 to 1981. His other credits include "Charlie's Angels," ''Dynasty" and "Baywatch." His wife said injuries sustained on the set of a Western film ended his career in 1997.
A smoker since age 14, Lawson later appeared in an anti-smoking commercial that parodied the Marlboro man and an "Entertainment Tonight" segment to discuss the negative effects of smoking. Susan said her husband was proud of the interview, even though he was smoking at the time and continued the habit until he was diagnosed with COPD.

(111,339 posts)they'll have to be a lot skinnier than cigarettes. They'll also have to be unfiltered, so Camel seems like a more appropriate outfit when it happens.
I know I would never trust anything I didn't roll myself. I learned that one in the 60s.

(80,708 posts)One of numerous skills I can't really put on my resume.
There are many stoners out there who graduated from rolling crappy pin joints to an admirable spliff, under my wise tutelage.
Warpy
(111,339 posts)that was packed with students, none of whom ever rolled a joint. I used a corncob pipe, myself, but stuff like that didn't occur to them and they begged my assistance (as if holding down a job made me wiser).
First time, I managed a nice fat joint with one paper. I just faked it and got it, first time. And I told them to go buy pipes if they weren't willing to learn such a necessary skill.
I've also been the one to make very usable hash pipes out of tinfoil. They didn't last long but the evidence could be disposed of very easily.
I might not die before my skill set becomes necessary once again.

(13,620 posts)70's but you didn't really need the machine, any bill would do. They weren't exceptionally huge bombers but they were perfect normal cigarette width joints. Nice and tight and even burning. In fact you had to be careful if the weed was a little moist not to get them too tight. They wouldn't burn well at all that way.
I got so good at that, that I never really learned to roll one well freehand. I never really needed to.

(16,856 posts)Who would be able to afford that? And just imagine what the carton price would be! People who think weed and tobacco smoking are comparable don't know much about either plant.

(16,856 posts)not tobacco companies, but I think tobacco companies would seek permission to do it if it became legal here. If they threw around enough money in Congress, they would probable get permission to do it, too.

(13,620 posts)get some really nice Mex sometimes. Sweet smelling and tasting with a few big speckled seeds. It could almost be like a nice pipe tobacco taste wise and I smoked a pipe and good cigars a lot. After the skunk bud boom, I never really could get good weed like that in my town though I would have preferred it sometimes.
Then you'd often get nasty dirty tasting stuff with a billion tiny frequently crushed seeds. I hated that but sometimes it was all there was and if you asked someone to bring it to you, you had to take it. Usually it was a friend doing you a favor. At least it did the trick but wasn't near as nice as better stuff.

(95,337 posts)Tobacco was never the issue when it comes to smoking. Back during Revolutionary times people would enjoy a pipe of tobacco with dinner or other events. Was tobacco harmless - probably not. But the tobacco industry took a product that probably had a few issues and exploited it to be highly addictive and full of carcinogenic chemicals that one would normally not put in a pipe and smoke.
Phillip Morris has been hurt over the years both with lawsuits against them and regulations against smoking. So for Phillip Morris, Marijuana is a chance for them to start making back the money they have lost over the years. However my fear is this - they are once again going to take a product that is pretty much harmless and find a way to make it highly addictive. PM knows the only way this product will be successful is if they can get the occasional user to the habitually addicted one. And in the process of getting marijuana smokers addicted, I suspect there will be the use of chemicals that once again you might not normally want to smoke but would be included in your product.
I hope that marijuana smokers are smart enough to reject this product and stick with what is natural.
