MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell All Beat Fox News

Tue, Feb 4th, 2014

Jason Easley

MSNBC’s coverage of the Chris Christie scandal has powered Chris Matthews, Rachel Maddow and Lawrence O’Donnell all to wins over Fox News with younger viewers age 25-54.

According to TVNewser, Monday was a very good night for MSNBC, “It was also a good night for MSNBC, which continued its coverage of the Chris Christie scandal throughout primetime. The network won in the demo at 7pmET, 9pmET and 10pmET. “Hardball with Chris Matthews” beat “On the Record with Greta Van Susteren” by +31,000 A25-54 viewers. Rachel Maddow’s program beat Megyn Kelly’s by +100,000 demo viewers, and “The Last Word” beat “Hannity” by +82,000.”

The only time slot that Fox won was at 8 PM, where Bill O’Reilly saw his audience swell to nearly double its normal size, because he was airing part two of his interview with President Obama. Fox News’ struggles to draw younger viewers have been well documented, but the cable news leader almost lost an entire night to MSNBC. If it wasn’t for Barack Obama, Fox might have been totally screwed.

I'm watching the rerun of his show right now and I am learning a lot about the so-called "Obamacare bailout" that's easy to understand and would be easy to repeat in a discussion with a Fox viewer if I were ever unlucky enough to have one. I was just thinking before I saw your post about how nice it is to get specific factsthat refute Fox (and that reflect reality) rather than the mealymouthed, "even handed" news from the other three or four news channels. (I would also trust Al Jazeera's reporting.)

So I think Chris Hayes' show is really valuable, and I love his enthusiasm... but I think you're right, it would probably be a good thing if he were to slow down a notch.

But that is a silly comment. That's how most everyone in the media describes that demographic. I happen to be one of them... but I'm female and Democratic so I don't watch FOX. But when my generation is gone...Fox is going to have trouble attracting viewers and the ReThugs will have problems attracting constituents. That also means less money.

He's the only serious news person I have observed who can take down the "mighty" with such acerbic, intellectual precision that you could almost not see it happening. Class and Style and a very sharp Wit...I was a fan. He could talk O'Reilly/Hannity et al under the table...with facts, an amazing memory, and with skill. He broke through glass ceilings/walls...too many, it seems.

Did I mention I was a fan? LOL

In memory of Hilary Rosen, Martin Bashir...and other sadly, lectured, fired, brought in line..et al "Offenders of Republicans".

But I'm not going to badmouth MSNBC. They are the closest media outlet that strays a bitty bit to the Left of Center. So I watch them and look forward to Joy's new show.

story broke? He is showing a profound inability to connect the dots. It is too much for him.
It appears he goes between the city and the Vineyard and spends all of his off-air time with plutocrats who allow him his ridiculous over-blown ego and stories from the 80s.

He frames everything with 20th century political notions to the extent I am embarrassed for him and for MSNBC. Remember he is so removed from the real world that he was beyond certain that the country wanted Rudy G. for their President in 2008. pathetic

A bit sick and tired of the rain on Chris Christie parade at MSNBC. The man is not going to be successful in the least, IF he somehow manages to survive this scandal, retain his Governor's seat and runs for President in 2016. Stick a fork in him... Christie's Presidential hopes are done. He's no Bill "Comeback Kid" Clinton.

MSNBC is sounding like a broken record -- and especially on Shapton and Maddow show today. (Missed Hayes and Tweety). If they keep this up, I'm turning to Discover ID for two weeks -- then see if the vinyl of "repeat" has changed.

Still will tune into my girl Tamron at 11 am ET to come. So glad she's getting a show at the true NEWS, not talking heads all day, everyday -- hours of the evening.

FAUX "news" is registered as an ENTERTAINMENT channel. That is why they come up with all this shit!

They can (and do) say anything. The dirty little secret is that they trled to report real news, but an authentic journalist who worked for Faux tried to sue them and they ran over to the FCC very fast and registered as an Entertainment channel...but...but...ah.. because WE are an entertainment venue...he CANNOT sue us. Case closed. No suit.

It's a sad commentary when Jon Stewart and S.

The shorter time period during the week seems to be hard for him to adjust to, I like his show because of his ows and climate change stuff, who else covers that? Love Joy Reid so smart and quick, don't like Ed much. Matthews is sometimes right on target and other times hopelessly lost. Rachel is always great and I adore Lawrence for his snark. Tamron is wonderful, I think Thomas Roberts should replace moaning Joe in the morning, he's smart and funny.
