Law-abiding undocumented immigrant is a contradiction in terms, isn't it? N.T. Donald Ian Rankin Feb 2014 #9
No. As you know, the majority of undocumented immigrants cause no trouble at all.... Hekate Feb 2014 #10

That Horsey toon is going to leave a mark.

Obviously, he's met some of the folks I grew up with.

They're here to work and give their kids a better life, just like the rest of us. They pay taxes: payroll taxes that go into SS they will never use, and sales taxes on nearly everything they buy (groceries may be exempted, I don't know if done everywhere). They send money home to their families in the home village. They keep their heads down.

I have no trouble with ICE catching and deporting gang members and felons. I do have a problem with the US federal legal system being used to seek out and harass and break up families of those who have done us no harm.

OTOH, if you know any native born Americans who want to hoe broccoli and pick strawberries while inhaling poisonous pesticides, just send them to the agribusiness farmers in Santa Maria. I'm sure the farmers would be oh-so-grateful to be spared the trouble of sending South for their laborers every year.

Immigrating illegally - for which "undocumented" is an obfuscatory euphemism - may not cause trouble, but it is not law-abiding either.
