GOP Rep. Doc Hastings To Retire

Rep. Doc Hastings (R-WA) announced Thursday that he would not seek reelection.

(snip)
"Last Friday, I celebrated my 73rd birthday and while I have the ability and seniority to continue serving Central Washington, it is time for the voters to choose a new person with new energy to represent them in the people’s House," Hastings said in a statement.

Hasting's 4th Congressional District is unlikely to fall into Democratic hands. In the last presidential election it went for Mitt Romney over President Barack Obama 60 percent to 38 percent.

Democrats need to win these two positions, that would change the dynamic of Eastern Washington and national politics.

We Democrats and progressives need to have a razor sharp focus this election season.

Everyone remember when Hastings took over the Ethics chairmanship because the then current "Ethics" chairman had to step down due to ETHICS issues? Remember?:

"...When the House Ethics Committee in 2005 admonished House Republican Leader and now convicted felon Tom Delay, Delay went berserk, fired Committee Chairman Joel Hefley, and installed his personal friend and party hack, Doc Hastings. Hastings, in turn, shut down the committee and allowed Delay to continue with his crime network. Once Doc Hastings became Chairman of the House Ethics Committee, Tom DeLay received no further admonitions, and convicted felon bribe takers Duke Cunningham and Bob Ney incurred no investigation. The House leadership also hid the criminal behavior of child sexual predator Mark Foley. To this day, Doc Hastings refuses to speak about his role as House Ethics Chairman."Well, Hastings sat firmly on and did not investigate one of the scandals that came to pass when Democrats regained the majority..." (From firedochastings.com and Rachel Maddow)

Hasting is the General character in Independence day: he is on the phone to his wife gleefully telling her he gets to represent the world meeting the Martians: "See honey, I told you, if you lay low and don't make waves, something great can happen!" (or words to that effect) THAT is Doc Hastings.

Too bad that worthless expenditure of my taxpayer dollars is completing his term.

We are originally from that area but as adults we've lived elsewhere..

Our Congressional District (where we live now) went, this last election, to a Democratic leader and a woman
after 70 years of repug rule.

It can be done.
