How soon they forget. Unions are not just about pay. Every UNION WORKER that worked at ENRON still has a pension!!!! Remember the endless stories of lost 401k's at ENRON? Need I say more?

An important thing to note is that much of the anti-union propoganda focused on forming a works council without the UAW. Works councils are what they have at all their other plants. It's similar to a union, but most countries have different laws protecting the. In the US, the law states that you can't have a "company union" because of the opportunity to abuse such a practice. I think the workers weren't so much sold on non-union as being convinced they could form a works council without the UAW. Corker and others have publicly claimed they think a works council can be formed without third party union support under US labor law. Most labor law experts don't agree, but I think Corker is planning on the current scotus pulling a Citizens United on the decision and ignoring the Constitution or labor law history. It's also important to note that the UAW signed an agreement with VW that outlined a new representation model where the UAW would negotiate pay but the works council would be responsible for safety and other issues. The anti-union folks misrepresented what was in the agreement to voters, and that may have hurt as well.
