Those plans are on hold. The story will continue.

(99,704 posts)Marta and I have been drivers for over 40 years. Only one time did we buy non-USA big three. My son in law sold cars at the time.
So we are just continuing the same buying pattern of USA/Canada union made cars.
Here is the new index for USA made cars: http://www.howtobuyamerican.com/bamw/bamw-130801-american-ness.shtml
Our Buy American Mention of the Week!
by Roger Simmermaker
August 1, 2013
We finally have an American-ness auto index that rightfully blows the Cars.com American-made index out of the water! The deeply flawed and misleading Cars.com index found the Toyota Camry to be the most American car in 2012 (and number 2 in 2013), but as I pointed out in an eariler 'Buy American Mention of the Week' article, this was a flawed analysis because it ignored too many other important factors.
Now, with the 'Kogod Made in America Auto Index' which takes these other important factors into account like the location of research and development and company headquarters, we have a much better and more accurate analysis. It turns out that three GM models are tied for the top spot of most American made, not the Toyota Camry, which is tied for 12th place with two other Toyotas.
The most-informative and well-known education tool for car consumers today comes courtesy of the American Auto Labeling Act (AALA), which helps car buyers select new vehicles by providing country of origin information on vehicles and their parts, and is displayed on each new vehicle available.
The AALA, which was enacted in 1992, was an important step forward in educating car consumers about things like the point of final assemble, the origin of the engine and transmission, and the percentage of domestic (U.S./Canadian) parts. You can see all of the details listed above for all of the automobiles at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website here dating back to 2007. The 2014 model year is also available.

(51,076 posts)Seriously why buy a new vehicle from a foreign owned company? Go check out a Ford Focus or even a Chevy Cruze, both are damn fine automobiles. Our Focus will haul 4 Adults in comfort, so will our friends Cruze. Our focus has a 160 hp 122 cu. in. engine with a 12 to 1 compression ratio with a dual clutch 6 speed automatic that will literally push you back in the seat and hold you there, if you like that kind of thing that is. All around driving we're getting a tad over 32 mpg. Real mileage too, not just what the computer says but miles divided by gallons mileage. I suspect that to get better as it gets more broke in as we only have 5500 miles on it so far. We haven't driven but one trip that was over a hundred miles and it was 140 miles. So that is pretty respectable mileage. Its a flex fuel if you like to use corn and with the lower cost of the corn fuel and even with the less mileage it will go about a mile further on a dollar of it to boot. We're a 10,000 mile a year driver and the savings we get from driving this Focus pays for the full coverage insurance on it and the liability on our other two vehicles over what we were spending on fuel for our damn fine '98 Ford Explorer that we can't seem to part with just yet.
The 32 mpg is on 10% ethanol or straight gas. The E85 was less mpg but damn near a dollar a gallon cheaper
Sorry to bother you but I'm a USA made, ford man. rather have a picture of a ford as the keys to anything else kind of guy
At any rate have a great day.
Your Union work is appreciated

(1,168 posts)A 2012 Escape and a 2007 Ranger 4X4. Both are great vehicles but the one I get into every morning for my 60 minute commute is my 2011 Mercedes Benz C300 4-matic. While not built for speed like the Focus, the 228 HP V-6 linked to a 7 speed auto gets you there.
I love Focuses. Foci? Anyway they're great.

(6,907 posts)We live in Chattanooga and need. New car. We were going to go Saturday and buy a Passat but decided not to. Went to ford instead. Thinking between fusion, escape, and cmax. I like the mpg of cmax, worried about luggage space for family trips. Still deciding.

(187 posts)no major problems with any of them, just normal wear and tear. Both my current vehicles have over 100,000 miles on them.
I highly recommend GM cars and trucks UNION built in the USA and Canada.
