I can't believe the opposition won't be keeping an eagle eye on them.

That said, I still did not see this coming.

so Yanukovich and Putin must see releasing her as one low-risk tactic to quell the protests (she's not going to try anything political, in other words). The Polish foreign minister told the opposition to take the deal being offered, or have martial law--that's really what's going to shut them down, the risk of more forces, or military forces, getting involved. The top brass and head of the army were replaced this week, presumably because they refused to order the military to take action against the people, or were deemed not loyal enough.
