Here’s more evidence that progressives and conservatives may find common ground on a key issue — billionaire tech star Peter Thiel, the San Francisco-based PayPal co-founder who’s given millions to GOP causes, leans toward supporting the idea of boosting the minimum wage to $12 an hour....
With his support, Thiel joins conservatives who include pundit Bill O’Reilly and who back the idea because it would make workers less reliant on taxpayer-supported benefits like welfare and food stamps.
We’ll say this: Thiel’s talk about “generous” and “distorted” welfare benefits could make some waves, given the net worth of the original outside Facebook investor is today estimated by Forbes at close to $2 billion.
The billionaire has donated millions to GOP causes; he gave $1 million to the anti-tax group, Club for Growth, and dropped nearly $4 million to the Endorse Liberty PAC to help the presidential campaign of Ron Paul in 2012.
