There's just one problem: Americans don't pay a penalty for not having health insurance until they file their 2014 taxes -- in 2015. So either Drudge is lying or he paid a huge penalty a year earlier than he needed to.

14. This is incorrect. Businesses (and individuals) must pay estimated taxes at least quarterly.

If you haven't paid most of your 2014 taxes already before the April 2015 filing deadline you owe additional penalties.

Since it is nearing the end of March, Drudge likely is referring to paying his first quarter's estimated tax.

Since Drudge apparently knows he won't be purchasing the required health insurance at all during the year he
knows what his penalty will be and can add 1/4th of it to his first estimated tax payment to avoid additional penalties.

And even then the penalty isn't payable until 2016. So Drudge is a flat-out liar. And the more pissy Tweets he makes on the subject, the worse he looks.

Most likely, his business is a flow through entity. As such, all income of the business is included on his individual return. As such, he has no automatic withholding like most employed individuals do on their w-2. Thus, he is required to file quarterly estimated tax payments. Even the IRS recommends individuals include the penalty as "other taxes" on the 1040-ES. Sadly, he is correct. The idiot who mans the White House twitter feed fucked up.
