We are (were) ruled by the world's worst humans.
Hayden suggested Feinstein's emotions are getting the better of her.
"That sentence -- that motivation for the report -- may show deep, emotional feeling on the part of the senator, but I don't think it leads you to an objective report," Hayden said.

Note: I mean people who post on DU but are not actually progressives, liberals or even Democrats.

(90,785 posts)The release of any part of the report will not "ensure that an un-American, brutal program of detention and interrogation will never again be considered or permitted."
Words on paper (torture is illegal/federal law/international law/customary law/principles of Nuremberg) didn't stop it the first time - and words on paper won't stop it from happening again. So no one should pretend the release of (portions of) the report will ensure anything.
And how un-American can it be if America (the government) did it?
That's just an attempt to distance the national brand (U.S.A! U.S.A!) from what its government did - but the U.S. government did it - and they got away with (so is impunity for war criminals the American way then?).
If torture is un-American even though America committed torture - then what is granting immunity to war criminals? Is that also un-American even though that's exactly what happened?
Saying torture is un-America implies it is something we wouldn't do. We could also insert the cowardly phrase "brutal program of detention and interrogation" for torture, as in - brutal program of detention and interrogation is un-American - yet America did it.
If America does it then it's not exactly un-American is it?
If torture is not in keeping with our ideals and beliefs but we did it anyway - then is immunity for war criminals in keeping with our ideals and beliefs?

If waterboarding doesn't work, you'll be fine, you have nothing to worry about.
We can't make you say something that isn't true simply because we want you to admit something...right?
