CATHERINE THOMPSON APRIL 10, 2014, 7:37 AM EDT
Attorney General Eric Holder briefly went off-script Wednesday in an appearance at the National Action Network convention in New York City to land another blow in his ongoing feud with Rep. Louis Gohmert (R-TX).
I'm pleased to note that the last five years have been defined by significant strides and by lasting reforms even in the face, even in the face of unprecedented, unwarranted, ugly and divisive adversity," he said, according to video recorded by Mediaite.
"And if you dont believe that, you look at the way -- and forget about me, forget about me -- you look at the way the attorney general of the United States was treated yesterday by a House committee," he continued. "That had nothing to do with me. Forget that. What attorney general has ever had to deal with that kind of treatment? What president has ever had to deal with that kind of treatment?
Those comments do not appear in Holder's prepared remarks for the event.

What attorney general has ever had to deal with that kind of treatment?
What president has ever had to deal with that kind of treatment?
I know the answer, but I'd like to hear it from you.

Edit: To be absolutely clear, I bear the BOG no ill will. I disagree with a lot of that group a lot of the time, but I often enjoy their comments anyway, and sometimes they make me reconsider my opinions. But a couple of you, man... you seem to hate Democrats even more than Republicans. All Democrats who aren't Barack Obama, that is.

(1,301 posts)In fact, it's a principle that's pretty widely held among Democrats.
And I am sick to fucking death of a few posters on here who go around slinging shit at any Democrat who isn't 100% in lock-step with the President. As I said in my post, this is not most of the BOG. It is a few specific posters, I'd say probably less than 5, definitely less than 10.
The poster I attacked, as is his wont, compared Democrats who have sincere disagreements with the President to Louie Gohmert. I, at least, had the decency to reply by calling him an asshole, not by calling him Michele Bachmann.
It's beyond me why so many on here have so much tolerance for open, naked slander. If you think it's just peachy to casually dismiss Democrats as tea-baggers, well, I sincerely hope you'll reconsider.
Edit: I suppose it might have been more mature of me to just use the "alert" button, but I really don't like that thing.

I've taken to adding a special note for "alerters" at the end of some, but not all, of my posts. Those would be posts where I have earlier proposed an argument supportive of, or questioned opposition to a policy of the Obama administration, and then received hysterical and combative responses from the nut gallery, and then replied to aforesaid hysterical and combative responses with the same measure of respect and consideration shown toward me.
I'll ask potential alterters to please consider the preceding posts.
It's a regrettable situation but there you are.

(9,462 posts)of the President is similar to Gohmert's treatment of Holder. If you don't treat the President the way Gohmert treats Holder, or worse, this wasn't about you.

(297,734 posts)is absolutely right.. And, your throwing in the strawman Louie Gohmert in an attempt to divert from what he's saying is hogwash.
tridim was referring to the "popular poster" whose OP was so vulgarly insulting to the President and was subsequently used by rw sites as an example of "the President Losing DU" .. an OP so disgustingly vile the poster has since deleted it.. Why? Because he finally woke the fuck up? I have no idea.
But, yeah, we were standing up for the President.
"Not all BOGgers are assholes, not all BOGgers are assholes....." You keep mumbling that to yourself.. but, it's not members of the Barack Obama Group that are the "assholes".
"..All Democrats who aren't Barack Obama, that is.".. wow.. what an ignorant statement.. You really don't have a clue about those who support President Obama but you're knee jerk ready to throw out the insults.
That is really so nice that you "bear the BOG no ill will".. feeling so much better now.

(1,301 posts)I mean, seriously. Do you really, honestly believe that Will's criticism is the same as Louie Gohmert's?
Either you do or you don't. Please be honest, and don't make excuses.

(1,301 posts)You CAN see the difference.
Which means that tridim's remark stands as slander against Democrats--of the sort which a few of you seem to positively relish.
But since it's apparently nevertheless just peachy to go around calling Democrats Louie Gohmert, and since you two are in the business of slandering joe-schmoes who disagree with the President, I'll take the opportunity to remind both of you that there is, in fact, a major political party which is dedicated to siding with the rich and powerful against the poor and weak.
One last thing: Since you're trying to paint me as anti-BOG, I went and checked the hosts of that group. I did see one other poster in that list whom I generally find to be pretty obnoxious, but all the other names I recognized were posters whose input here I value. So as I said originally, there seem to be a couple of you on here who dedicate yourselves to making the whole group look bad. I think that's a shame, but I guess that's just the way it is.

Focus is what is needed going into the mid-terms. Do not let insignificant uttering's of the likes of gomer-t derail the important work the AG's office needs to accomplish.

Louie Gohmert is the face of the ugly American.
