Standardized tests for 4-year-olds? Really, Greg Abbott?

(10,650 posts)Abbott may be a hypocritical idiot, but he has the (R) next to his name on the ballot. In a backwards state like Texas, that gets 51% of the vote minimum.

Democratic strategist Paul Begala told TPM. "Texas is not so much a red state as it is a non-voting state. Â Wendy needs to do what Barack Obama did in 2008 in Virginia and North Carolina and Indiana: alter the composition of the electorate by identifying, inspiring and enrolling previously under-represented constituencies."
Greg is helping by pissing off Hispanic and single suburban women voters.

(8,322 posts)There are between 2.5 and 3 million CVAP (citizen voting age population) Texans who are not registered. There were eight million Texans who were registered to vote in 2012 who did not do so.
These numbers come from a former SDEC committee chairman for the Texas Democratic Party.

(32,060 posts)we're getting closer to purple at this point. This article from a few weeks ago is cautiously optimistic, noting that "new poll shows that 17 percent of independent voters in Texas are still undecided" - that is in Wendy's favor.

(145,231 posts)Greg is making a large number of mistakes and is making Goodhair look like a genius. Here is another example. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jim-moore/crooks-creeps-and-crackpo_b_5085929.html
The notion that Greg Abbott was going to become governor of Texas without much of a fight has quickly disappeared into a smog of bad decisions. The state's attorney general, who has recently been defending a public education plan derived, in part, from the dissertations of a gender and racial elitist, keeps making disturbing choices that create more doubt than confidence.
And one of his worse, thus far, has gone without notice.
A key strategist of Abbott's campaign team is a confessed criminal who admitted money laundering to circumvent Texas campaign finance laws. John Colyandro, who began his political career writing direct mail pieces for Karl Rove, is Abbott's director of policy. He was also a central figure in a scheme that funneled corporate dollars into Texas legislative campaigns in violation of state law.
Colyandro, in fact, admitted in a November 2012 plea bargain that he executed an exchange of $190,000 in corporate cash with the Republican National Committee (RNC) to get around the Texas law that prohibits corporations from making direct contributions to political campaigns. The money was sent to the RNC and then the exact amount was returned by the organization for distribution to Texas GOP candidates.
In addition the above stupidity, Greg campaigned with Ted Nugent, bungled the equal pay issue and is citing a known racist as the authority for his education policy.

(262 posts)There was an article questioning Abbot's commitment to serve Texas.
He's refusing to answer ANYTHING.
That should be a perfect Wendy Davis ad - Abbott won't answer your questions! He thinks he is entitled to the job, etc..

(32,060 posts)who are economically conservative but they are pro-choice. I am really hoping a bunch of them decide enough is enough on this. They don't want their own daughters pregnant at 14 and they want access to birth control themselves of course. I can't believe the republican party could find someone worse than GoodHair, but then I said that about GWB too.
