Anti-Defamation League says "Ukraine=Nazis" is Russian Propaganda

I hope some folks are getting around to recognizing that the people pushing the "new Ukraine government = Nazis" line are duped by Russian propaganda, and are engaged in a very cynical exploitation of Jewish interests.

Jews in Ukraine have at least as much to fear from the pro-Russian side as the independent Ukraine side.

(Anti-semitism is ubiquitous in that part of the world and there is no 100% pro-Jewish side in the political/military war for Ukraine.)

I do not feel confident enough in the Donetsk "registering Jews" story to say anything definitive about that, but I recommend this USA Today story as one of the first major media takes on the thing and for some general comments about how Jewish interests have been exploited as Russian propaganda pawns.

But the Russian side has used the specter of anti-semitism in a cynical manner since anti-government protests began in Kiev that resulted in the ousting of Ukraine's pro-Russian former president Viktor Yanukovych. Russia and its allies in Ukraine issued multiple stories about the the threat posed to Jews by Ukraine's new pro-Western government in Kiev, Salberg said.

Those stories were based in part on ultra-nationalists who joined the Maidan protests, and the inclusion of the ultra-nationalist Svoboda party in Ukraine's new interim government. But the threat turned out to be false, he said.

Svoboda's leadership needs to be monitored, but so far it has refrained from anti-Semitic statements since joining the government, he said. And the prevalence of anti-Semitic acts has not changed since before the Maidan protests, according to the ADL and the Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union, which monitors human rights in Ukraine...

3. I disagree. Many people credit sources generally, and

when posters they like or sites they like started shilling the "Maidan = USA led Nazi takeover" they would have taken a generally sympathetic view of that line without investing much in their vague opinion.

A lot of people mistakenly see, for instance, Russia Today as a news organization like Al Jazeera, and since RT gives air time to some American progressives they must be part of the "truth" the MSM won't tell us.

I doubt that everyone who is sympathetic to the Russian propaganda (as opposed to those actually promoting it) understands that they are being played.

They were nasty little sons of bitches that used local agitators to get these things going. Sometimes they had to keep two or three degrees of separation.

So this is why I honestly think is going on. NO, we are not getting punked, contrary to the claims of some folks here. Yes, this is real, and no you cannot tie it directly to any of the people in charge, or who claim to be in charge.

If we get a progrom and they need to point fingers due to "western interference" or "Russian horrors" they can always blame the designated looney. This is really old.

Of course knowing the history helps.

The reason for these attacks on the Jewish community are as old as the middle ages. You need a scapegoat and things are getting out of control, so a scapegoat you have.

This is the other reason why this place at times frustrates me. There is a long history to all this, that goes to much older than the US was even in the imagination of the Founding Fathers.

It is completely expected though. The "use" of Jews has been happening since this crap first started. The pro-Putin camp has been crowing about the neo-Nazi take over, all the while excusing or ignoring the anti-Semitism from Mother Russia. It is even "funnier" how the ones claiming it is all fake, think this would be the tipping point for Western intervention. As if!

Maybe the easiest way to galvanize Russian public opinion against somebody is to identify them as NAZIS!!! Forty years of Soviet propaganda was largely about the Great Patriotic War to defend the homeland from fascists/nazis. Not really surprising that an old KGB guy would be cynically using this ploy in his campaign to reestablish Russia as a superpower or whatever; Novaya Rossiya (New Russia) is an interesting new term he unveiled today.

Those leaflets could come from anyplace.

11. Novaya Russiya is actually an old term

He is drawing from the deep well of Russian nationalism. It adds to the threat to Kiev, he said that it was the mother of all Russian cities. In the US that is a nice turn of phrase. In Kiev that has a very particular, I will add chilling, meaning.

But this is Nuland or something...

It is...complicated.

As to 4o years of the Great Patriotic War which Russia won single handed, I hear we won WW2 single handed too it is the last good war.
