Condoleezza Rice, who served as the Secretary of State during the second half of the George W. Bush presidency, has joined the board of directors at Dropbox.
As a country, we are having a great national conversation and debate about exactly how to manage privacy concerns, Rice told Bloomberg Businessweek. I look forward to helping Dropbox navigate it.
Who joins corporate boards isnt usually big news. But Rice isn't just anyoneand her appointment immediately sparked a flash of outrage online.
Rice's politically-charged history makes her a contentious choice that is angering many current Dropbox users. A newly created website called Drop Dropbox protests the appointment with a succinct list of reasons why people object to her new position: her involvement in the Iraq War, her endorsement of the Bush administrations torture program and, importantly, her support for warrantless wiretaps.

(152,967 posts)who the F*** does she thinks she is? This is what happens when no one is held accountable - these people go on with their lives, painting, trashing the current president, worrying about PRIVACY, as if NOTHING EVER HAPPENED. F*** THEM ALL.
she is eying a run for president down the road ; just think: a woman repug: simply can't lose , she thinks .

(7,784 posts)Dropbox is a file hosting service operated by Dropbox, Inc., headquartered in San Francisco, California, that offers cloud storage, file synchronization, and client software. Dropbox allows users to create a special folder on each of their computers, which Dropbox then synchronizes so that it appears to be the same folder (with the same contents) regardless of which computer is used to view it. Files placed in this folder also are accessible through a website and mobile phone applications.
Dropbox, Inc., was founded in 2007 by Drew Houston and Arash Ferdowsi, as a Y Combinator startup company.[5]
Dropbox provides client software for Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Android, iOS, BlackBerry OS and web browsers, as well as unofficial ports to Symbian, Windows Phone, and MeeGo.

But I, personally, will use another service from now on. What are people thinking when they hire controversial politicians for commercial services? You can look for more on this issue in the future.

She should stop using narcotics....LOL

(62,325 posts)She belongs in jail but we don't live in a nation that views war crimes, well OUR crimes as any barrier to power and wealth. The Left caved on holding them accountable also, once our 'team' was in power, so we will get what we deserve and it just might be someone like Rice occupying the WH.
She is running around now claiming to be a Civil Rights advocate, now a Privacy advocate. Sometimes I think THEY are just testing us to see how far they can go before they reach the bottom of the level of stupidity they obviously believe exists in this country. And who can blame them, we have failed totally to stop them, in fact some on our side are now actively helping them.

(2,992 posts)So the nighmare can come back? How horrible perspective.....
sabrina 1
(62,325 posts)lately, admonishing the Obama administration for presumably not dashing into war with Russia, 'we need leadership' I believe she said. She is showing up at colleges claiming to be a Civil Rights advocate, telling her own story of growing up during the Civil Rights era in the South eg. Wonder why she decided Civil Rights weren't important later on, but no one is allowed to ask her such pertinent questions.
Now she's claiming to be a Privacy Advocate? Lol, it wasn't so sad, it would make a good comedy skit on SNL.
I'm just speculating at this point, but nothing would surprise me. Half this country still thinks Bush was a war hero.

(55,981 posts)try to win the presidency. If Jeb runs I doubt that Condi "the war criminal" Rice will be on the ticket. The Republican grassroots voters are strongly ant-women and racist. If she is on the ticket then I think a lot of the crazies will stay home.
I like to give each of the Bush war criminals a unique number signifying their culpability in war crime participation.
I list Cheney as #1WC (war criminal or water closet, take your pick) Bushy jr. #2WC. RummyDumDum is #3WC. I think Condi should be #4WC. Poppy Bush should be listed fairly high. A work in progress.

(62,325 posts)Sarah Palin in order to have their 'own woman' to show us Lieberals there ARE women who are not like OURS lol.
And they totally supported their AA candidate whose name escapes me right now, to show that Conservative AAs are the BEST unlike all those Lieberals who are just whining all the time about welfare etc.
And the entire Republican, Bush supporting base LOVES Condi. She is the antithesis of all those AA women who have been 'used by the Left' in their view and 'kept down' by the Dem Party, all these years. She loves WAR!! See? AA Women who are CONSERVATIVES know how important War and Torture are for our Nationl Security!
They feel protective of her, they think Lieberals are out to get ANYONE, AA women especially, who choose THEIR side for a change.
Condi is their ideal woman, she is what they wish all AA women would be, warmongering, torture supporting, tough, Conservative.
She is their Hillary! And better, she's also AA so they might attract some of the minority votes they absolutely need to win.
The horrible fact is it could work!

(2,992 posts)Staring, as nominees...
On the Dem side : a Warren/Hillary ticket...
On the GOP side: a Condi/Palin one....
Yes, that election would be historic......

Palin imploded for them. But Condi has 'creds' in their view. What a frightening thought especially BECAUSE it is possible.

(27,275 posts)but thankfully, she is such a disgrace that she won't have supposed democrats backing her, as some still do with powell, who is also a disgrace.

(62,325 posts)shocked me. So I don't just assume anything anymore. I have seen 'dems' defend the Bush policies of massive spying on the American people eg, something I never thought I would see from our side. So you never know, if the PR is 'persuasive' enough, and certainly the leadership of the party doesn't seem to have any problems with these criminals, anything could happen.

(4,775 posts)"I like to give each of the Bush war criminals a unique number signifying their culpability in war crime participation."
As long as it's clearly done as not a hit list, I think they should be on a deck of cards, just like they did with the terrorists, were each card lists their war crimes, etc.

(55,981 posts)alive in prison. But your deck of cards is a great idea. BUT NOT AS A HIT LIST. Do you think that will be accepted by the NSA/CIA/FBI scanners?

(55,981 posts)and Cheney was the king and Bush was the queen, who would be the ace? I am assuming we are only using one suit.
dreamnightwind
(4,775 posts)Cheney ace
Bush king
Condi queen
Rumsfeld jack
then maybe Wolfowitz, Feith, Pearle, either lower down or as a joker could be Colin Powell, Yoo, Bybee, probably missing a few
not definitive though, plenty of ways to lay it out
And I only made the point about making sure it didn't look like a hit list because the Bush administration's deck of terrorist cards basically was a hit list, wasn't implying you would do such a thing.
Someone has to have made a deck of cards like this already. Maybe someone knows and will post a link... They should lay out the case for prosecution of that person's war crimes if possible, or at least state their crimes

(12,977 posts)He likes being able to access his files from anywhere and not have to carry them around on a thumbdrive that could get lost or stolen or go through the wash. And he said it was nice to have a boycott for once that he could actually participate in. Also that switching over was as easy as dragging his files from one window to another and then letting everything resync.
Me, I know nothing of all this -- but you might pass the word along to any millennials in your family.
http://dougbelshaw.com/blog/2013/08/28/why-im-saying-goodbye-to-dropbox-and-hello-to-spideroak-hive/
Ive been a happy Dropbox user for years. I even took Lifehackers advice a couple of years ago and made it, effectively, My Documents; if it was on my machine it was backed up to Dropboxs servers. Ive had zero user experience issues with Dropbox, finding it efficient and useful for when I want to share something while on-the-go. The mobile apps are great and the pricing plans are reasonable.
So why have I just jumped ship to SpiderOak? My main concerns are around the NSA revelations. Ive taken my time to read up on whats going on and, last Sunday, finally felt I could write my response. As a consquence, Im reviewing the core services I rely upon on a day-to-day basis. I had Dropbox in my crosshairs due to their seemingly regular and high-profile security breaches. It helped that my yearly renewal was due this Friday.
Perhaps the easiest way to explain the difference between Dropbox and SpiderOak is like this: if you forget your Dropbox password youre able to reset it. Thats great, but it means that Dropbox has the means to access your files as they hold the key to unlocking your files.
Its worth saying at this point that I dont, to my knowledge, do anything wildly illegal. But why should others have access to my files? Theres a reason we put curtains on our windows. Privacy is something that we should care about and defend.

In addition to a massive hiring spurt and fundraising stockpile, Dropbox has been quietly acquiring startups that make productivity and media apps so their teams can work on similar products internally.
In just the last three months, Dropboxs acquisitions have included photo app Loom, collaborative document tool Hackpad, corporate chat tool Zulip and social e-book reader Readmill. The first two were undisclosed until now; the latter two had previously leaked out.

(4,775 posts)I use Dropbox a ton, we send rehearsal and gig recordings to the other band members that way. Works great, just the free version. So I'll have to research some of the suggestions in this thread to see what would take its place.
Need some site that allows large uploads, shared with an emailed link that doesn't require all of the link recipients to setup accounts with the service to get the files.
