Republicans pass tax breaks, but don't pay for themby Lisa Desjardins at CNN

"SNIP......................
Democrats are particularly pressing the issue now because they see a conflict between the Republican demands that spending, especially on Democratic priorities like unemployment benefits, be offset while the GOP allows their own priority tax cuts to add to the deficit.
Its a clear double standard, particularly when you hold up unemployment, said Chuck Marr, director of tax policy at the left-leaning Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
But Democrats also have exceptions to pay-for pushes, notably, many Democrats believe that unemployment benefits are emergency spending and do not need to be offset.
When asked if that is a double standard from the left, Marr said no.

OP
I think "Republicans don't pay for tax cuts" would make a good mantra for 2014.

(52,243 posts)5. on the right track, but not good enough. people will hear "republicans blah blah blah tax cuts".
i know quite a few republicans who disagree with *everything* they stand for yet still vote for them because the *only* thing they really care about is tax cuts. why advertise for them the only thing about them that reliably gets them votes?

(19,877 posts)2. Republicans constantly say "tax and spend Liberals"
Meanwhile, they are actually "borrow and spend conservatives". Taxing and spending is how govt. is supposed to work. Borrowing and spending is a National disaster. From the party that blew a surplus.
House of Roberts
(5,174 posts)3. Borrow and blow.
They never spend on anything substantial that is left after it is bought, like infrastructure.
