(19,240 posts)Up until 1960, cod liver oil was a staple to prevent rickets. But it also has omega 3 fatty acids and other trace minerals vitamins and elements. So, everyone was getting stuff to clean out their arteries. Now, we are all Vit D def--and, if we think about it, we take Vit D. But we do not get the fish oil.
Not sure that eating fish liver is a good idea right now, with all the toxins in the water. However, cod liver oil is about 1000 years old---it is what Vikings used to keep from getting rickets in the far northern latitudes where Africans were not meant to live but where the warm waters of the Gulf Stream made a habitable environment.
Anyone know of any clean, nontoxic non yucky tasting fish liver oil?
