(8,159 posts)I lived near Liberty NC back in the 70's.
The folks there were very friendly and nice but very unaware of what's going on outside their little community.
This was a problem with education, not stupid people. I might add the KKK stood on the high school sidewalk passing out literature to students.
No education, poverty, KKK, limited and skewed knowledge of history can destroy our country.
This is what the repugs want and it's working in the south.

(16,230 posts)Does being uneducated cause a tendency to vote Republican, or do Republican policies cause a tendency to be uneducated?
I suspect that both are true and that it's a positive feedback cycle.

(735 posts)I have lived in Arkansas for 29 yrs. I am not a native of the state, but I choose to live here because of the kindness and old southern manners. Unfortunatly on the flip side of that is the ignorance that is rampant in a portion of the populace. The sad part is, that these individuals are not stupid. I have seen first hand the results of southern engineering, like MacGyvers they can make and fix anything the majority of the time.
Ignorance can be educated but, there is a willfull opposition to be educated. Like a 4 yr. old sticking their fingers in their ears and shouting lalalala I can't hear you!! Ken Ham in the debate with Bill Nye being asked what if, anything would change your mind. And his response in a nut shell was nothing would change his mind. Evidence was Nye's response. I can think of no better example of some peoples staunch unwillingness to learning anything new.
