Five safe after whale damages boat near Pescadero

A whale hit a pleasure boat off Pescadero on Saturday afternoon, leaving the disabled craft adrift toward rocky coastline before the five people managed to get ashore and call 911, authorities said.

San Mateo sheriff's officials got a call at 2:40 p.m. from people who had abandoned the damaged craft. They said the engine had failed after running into the whale about 10 miles off the coast and warned that their abandoned boat was taking on water and being driven toward the rocky coast by high winds, said Sheriff's Deputy Rebecca Rosenblatt.

No one was injured.

2. Agreed - sounds from the article like they don't have their story straight . . .

That they ran into the whale seems the only clear bit, and that's within the article.

5. Yeah I think it might have to do with federal laws protecting marine mammals.

It's interesting to me they didn't contact anyone while they were out at sea...
