The March for Democracy

The California March for Democracy.

99Rise on Facebook.

I have had really high hopes for this event. I think they picked the right issue, I think they've identified the right solutions. I think a long sustained event like a march lasting more than a month has the opportunity to build momentum over time. But they don't seem to be getting the word out. I don't think they're using social media effectively. Can anyone suggest some fixes or lend them a hand building some media buzz?

June 5-7 at my home. Accommodating as many as I can to sleep at the house, shower, do laundry, charge cell phones/laptops and feeding them.

Just FYI, there is a post in the California forum that no one is paying attention to and I posted a thread a few days ago here in GD that sunk like a rock. I hate to say it about my fellow DUers but 99.9% of them are keyboard warriors. When it comes to actual activism, well, not so much. I say this because it's not the first time activities have gone ignored on DU.

I am currently in the process of contacting various groups in my city and gathering news media outlets in anticipation of their arrival and in the hopes of raising awareness, gaining marchers and media attention.

If ANY CALIFORNIANS would like to lend a hand in either home stays, feeding them, donating to them or marching with them, it sure would be appreciated.

California is a huge state, and can be a trend setter. I also liked the fact that they were marching through the central valley which is, and correct me if I'm wrong, the reddest part of Cali. I thought they might get a warmer than expected reception along the way.

So do you know how many people are marching at this point. The pictures on the Facebook page looked like it might be a dozen or so.

Keep it up La Taz

i.e. places like Del Norte County and also, to the South, Riverside County, San Diego (Darrell Issa?), etc. The Central Valley isn't quite as red as some like to think. They were actually calculating the shortest route to Sacramento and the Central Valley made the most sense, basically, paralleling Hwy. 99 which brings you right to Sacramento.

Last I checked there were about 95 people signed up to march but that will be intermittent with people joining up and dropping out along the way. I think only about a dozen or so are scheduled to march the entire way plus occupy the State Capitol. I may or may not join the march. I'm pushing 60 and an asthmatic. One of the things that will trigger my asthma is hot weather and it's been unusually hot very early this year so we'll see. As I said, if I can't march, I can certainly act as support.

Thank you for bringing this up, btw. I'm going to keep sort of a running report on DU while they're here. There may not be anyone interested but I'm going to post it anyway.
