Peter King Calls For Enhanced Gun Control Legislation In Wake Of California Rampage

Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.) joined the charge of politicians calling for a review of gun control legislation on Sunday in the wake of a gunman's deadly rampage on the campus of University of California, Santa Barbara.

King, a longtime advocate of stricter gun control policies, told the Washington Post that the incident reinforces the argument for expanding background checks for gun owners.

“This tragedy demonstrates once again the need to keep guns out of the hands of the mentally ill,” he said.
King added that any effort to convince House leadership to bring gun control legislation up this summer will be "very difficult," saying gun control advocates in Congress need to "focus the discussion" surrounding mental illness and access to firearms.

The Brady Campaign endorsed him in 2006 and 2008.

King was right for not voting for impeachment, and this is his second time.

why not work it from the other direction. If a person is under psych care, the doctor must report it to the system that does the background check.

I agree why not do a mental health bill that allows good information for weapons transactions? People will jump all over it due to privacy. It just sounds better to say gun control in wake of another shooting. They always seem to forget the stabbing part. Look at every OP in DU right now, are the stabbing deaths even mentioned? No it is the gun. Even though California has every law that has been proposed already on the books and every weapon was legal, his low capacity magazines were legal, he passed all of the background checks. We must pass more gun control even though they do not even know what they want to pass, we must do something, a gun was used.
