(102,303 posts)It appears to me that the speech was ongoing before the first announcements of Ms. Angelou's death. It is an important speech--focusing on the most distinctive differences between the critical war hawks and a more thoughtful, sane foreign policy sans endless wars--taking nothing away from Maya Angelou. I think Ms. Angelou would agree.

I treasure every word Maya Angelou wrote but to expect the President of the United States to drop everything because of her death is unreasonable. I am certain he will issue a statement on her passing that will be worthy of her memory.

(30,058 posts)The Commencement Address at West Point. I totally understand giving lots of honor to Maya Angelou but she understood his position and responsibilities. Her words will remain with us for years to come, I am very happy to have lived in a world in which she gave do much. Thanks for the memories, Maya Angelou.

(90,723 posts)I'm sorry I missed it. According to the talking heads I skimmed past it was the most dovish major foreign policy address by a sitting US president since Dwight David Eisenhower.
That's right. "Dovish" was the word they used. I bet McCain popped a vein.
PS: President Obama already released a statement on Maya Angelou that amounts to a loving eulogy.
