Nazi sympathizer invades pitch during World Cup match

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/soccer-dirty-tackle/nazi-sympathizer-invades-pitch-during-ghana-germany-game-235011679.html

RIO DE JANEIRO — FIFA’s plea to eliminate racism at this year’s World Cup continues to fall on deaf ears.

Despite a vehement campaign from the organization and pleas and public service announcements from teams and players, it has been one of the overriding themes of the 2014 World Cup.

The anti-discrimination Fare network, which made reports to FIFA about the matter on Thursday, noted that there were several neo-Nazi signs at matches involving Russia and Croatia.

And on Saturday, it took center stage again when a Nazi sympathizer rushed the field during the Ghana-Germany game. No security attempted to stop him as he took his shirt off to reveal a pro-Nazi message. He had to be ushered off the field by Ghana midfielder Sulley Muntari.

Hate it when racism and homophobia are present. Hopefully the German coach will condemn this, unlike the Mexico coach:

Mexico coach defends gay slur chant by crowd

Mexico coach Miguel Herrera has defended World Cup fans chanting a gay slur which is under investigation by the sport's international governing body.

Mexico fans shouting the slur as the rival team's goalkeeper takes a goal kick is "not that bad," Herrera said Friday.

"We're with our fans. It's something they do to pressure the opposing goalkeeper," he said.

And exactly what I was thinking. Except the players would have been involved no doubt.

More World Cup idiots on display.

Brazil and Mexico could escape with a warning for what would be classed as a first offence under Fifa’s disciplinary code but Russia and Croatia may face the threat of points deductions.

The World Cup is the second major tournament in a row in which their fans have been accused of racism, with both sanctioned more than once by Uefa during the European Championship two years ago. Russia were hit with a suspended six-point penalty for their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign for various offences, including the display of illicit banners and monkey chants.

The conduct of Russian supporters will heap pressure on organisers of the 2018 World Cup, with Manchester City midfielder Yaya Touré last year warning black players could boycott the tournament if they continued to be abused after suffering monkey chants in Moscow.

Their football federation was fined three times at Euro 2012 for various supporter offences, including the display of illicit banners and monkey chants directed at Italy striker Mario Balotelli.
