A taillight is all that is visible after a storm caused a tree to fall on a car in Adair, Iowa, trapping a passing motorist on Monday. Rescue crews had to wait until power crews came in and cut a power line that was tangled in the fallen tree, preventing the rescue. The driver was eventually rescued and talked to firefighters while he waited. He walked away from the accident.

Michelle King has been through her share of storms, including a tornado, but none prepared her for the wind and hail that blew through Adair, Iowa, on Monday.
A fast-moving, powerful storm known as a derecho hatched in northeast Nebraska Monday, tore across Iowa and raced toward the Upper Midwest.

A fallen tree covers a car in Adair, Iowa, on Monday. Rescue crews freed a man who was trapped in the car.
Derechos are known for sweeping out of the sky so fast that people have little time to react. Mondays storm was traveling about 50 mph when it kicked up in Nebraska.
It went from nothing to something in about five minutes, King said. It was dark, ferocious. I dont scare easily, but I did today.
