Metal ones are good for cleaning out pipes and random crap around the garage. Oh, and they work good as hooks to hang the blinds off my tree when washing.

9. Yes they do

Found a bunch of them cleaning closets after Mom died. She wasn't "crafty" so I think they were gifts from moms (she was a teacher). Meant to keep clothes from slipping off the hanger I guess.

11. I have a couple of those weaved hangers

in my closet. I don't know where they came from, but they grip the clothing and prevent them from slipping off the hangers.
