First year I have really gotten into watching the games, but it has been fun so far.

Also some stuff about corrupt Belgian officials, and things that you will hopefully never have to contend with. She then asked if I had an extra hour, because she did and would lead me on a private tour through the Belgian Parliament. Cool stuff--and distracting enough so the match tonight never came up again!
Enjoy
I just got back "home" to our place in the German Rheinland (10:30 PM here), have a zillion things to do before heading up to northern Germany tomorrow morning, then back Thursday, and finally over to the big bad USA for some MUCH-needed relaxation. That was before Belgium scored
Could have won it if Chris Wondolowski had buried that chance just before the end of regular time.
Truth be told Belgium had way more chances but Howard was fabulous. He saved fifteen or sixteen good chances.

Team USA Lost, but Tim Howard Is a Winner
Even in the crushing loss to Belgium, the goalkeeper set a record with 16 saves. This has been his World Cup.
As Team USA battled through an ulcer-inducing overtime against Belgium, one thing was clear: Tim Howard single-handedly carried America's ass through its bittersweet World Cup adventure. More than a dozen times he rescued the U.S. from the Belgian onslaught, improbably blocking shot after shot. It cannot be overstated how devastating Kevin De Bruyne's game-changing goal for Belgium was but neither can Howard's super-human performance. Howard had the most saves in a single game, 16, in World Cup history. America owes an improbably large thank you to Howard for leading us.
Americans are officially caring about soccer. We watched the game in record numbers, eclipsing both baseballs World Seriesour national pastimeand the NBA finals. Were buying Clint Dempsey jerseys in (relative) droves. Were obsessing over Jermaine Jones wonder goal and praying to god his German heritage doesnt stir any mixed feelings on Thursday. Were debating whether Michael Bradley even deserves a spot on the team. But Howard, the man that has kept the U.S. afloat, hasnt earned quite the same spotlight.
More..

No disgrace here. USA football is improving - they need to concentrate on building that mid-field so the defense doesn't have to work so hard.
A lil finesse re finishing might have given the US the game in the dying minutes of regular time.

(1,325 posts)I got a US ESPN feed from Wiziwig but it kept laggin on me. The most stable feed was blurry as all hell.
The Korean announcers on regular TV (MBC and KBS) like to "ham" it up and even sigh when players miss shots. Here's a pretty good example in this video.
I feel bad that we lost, but damn did we come back hard after that goal. That was some amazing goalkeeping by Howard.
