Utah records: Protective order, psychological evaluation in past of accused Texas family killer

A former Utahn charged in Texas with killing six people had several run-ins with the law while living in Cache Valley, according to police and court records.

Ronald Lee Haskell’s wife obtained a protective order against him in 2013, a month before she filed for divorce. The two had lived in Smithfield and Logan.

The divorce decree, issued in February, required Ronald Haskell, 33, to obtain a psychological evaluation and provide documentation that he was emotionally and mentally stable enough to care for his four children without supervision.

...

"Mr. Haskell was booked into the Cache County Jail on charges of simple assault and child abuse or neglect, both class B misdemeanors, on June 5, 2008," according to a news release from the Cache County Sheriff’s Office. "Since then, he has had multiple involvements with Logan City Police Department and had a protective order served on him by Cache County Sheriff’s deputies on July 9, 2013."

I feel so bad for these poor people, and the children and other family members left behind

in cold blood .. and it gets almost no reaction. Same as with an earlier thread about this.

Maybe if you made up a more provocative title it would help draw attention... sigh.

Not a day goes by that some violent piece of shit doesn't murder a partner or ex partner. I guess that's why so few deem it worthy of comment or even attention. It breaks my heart.

This family wasnt even involved, but he shot them anyway. I hope he suffers the rest of his miserable life.

What a weak, pathetic excuse for a human being. The thing is, all the signs were there, but because domestic violence is never taken seriously, he was allowed to roam free and purchase guns. He should have been in jail.

This country will have come to a pretty pass when the day comes that a man with Mr. Haskell's record is denied his Second Amendment rights just because of some picayune little domestic violence matter and some alleged psychological problems. God bless America!

Too bad about the victims, but their right to live doesn't trump their killer's blah, blah, blah.

law may have prevented this. It works. In areas where they confiscate guns when a protective order is served; spousal murder has dropped dramatically. The recipient of the PO can appeal to get their gun back.

Of course the BRA is against this.

Referencing a previous thread where I think it was the DA who said this, in other words, like he didn't do anything that bad to make them watch out for this guy.

The story I read yesterday didn't have that part about him being required to obtain a psyche evaluation. I'm guessing he didn't go.

Order against him, but they did not say what state she was in or if others in the family had been notified.

This story sickens me.
