General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsYou may be an Israel Supporter, but you really think that US aid to Israel should continue ?
After Afghanistan, Israel is then 2nd country to get most foreign aid.
You may say that Israel has a right to defend its own country and also argue that hamas is using civilians as cover-up against Israeli attacks but i hope you also agree that US military aid to Israel should stop.
Also, while we are on that how about stopping military aid to every country ?
Note : One of the posted said that iron dome expansion was funded by US govt. I am not against iron dome and it great defence system to save lives in the war. The only thing is that Israel should be able to fund it's defence program from its own budget and not US budget.

The Israeli Ministry of Defense is undertaking a final review of a deal with Raytheon for more antimissile batteries. The company is also working with Israeli defense firms on a separate deal for a next-generation shield designed to strike down long-range missiles that may already be in the hands of Hamas as well as the Hezbollah terrorist group in neighboring Lebanon.
Israel built its existing Iron Dome defense system with the help of US funding and expertise. The system has succeeded in shooting down most of the rockets that have threatened populated areas, but concern about the continuing threat has led Israel to enlist Raytheons help to expand its missile defenses.
<snip>
For Raytheon, the Israeli contracts part of a coproduction deal with Israels Rafael Advanced Defense Systems present a potential financial windfall. Much of the work would be done at Raytheons Tucson, Ariz., missile systems plant, as well by subcontractors across the country, officials said.
Raytheons contracts with Israel would indirectly help the US economy recoup some of the nearly $1 billion in US aid that enabled Israeli designers to develop the Iron Dome system in recent years. The Obama administration requested $175 million for Israels Iron Dome in the 2015 budget, and that amount has been doubled by congressional defense committees. The House measure required that much of that money be spent on US components, which is likely to be beneficial to Raytheon.

(4,185 posts)1. I'm not aware of the Israelis selling weapons to Iran and can't imagine why they would. I don't know about SA. need to educate myself there.
2. If that is the plan. Frankly I'd still rather them buy them from us than another country and turn around and sell them. For a few reasons. 1. It's one of the only industries we haven't totally offshored. 2. Allows us to track the weapons. I'm sure in this digital age their are all kinds of goodies in the 'big guns' that allow for that.
At the end, if someone is going to sell them, I'd rather it be us. I trust us the most. (That's not really saying a whole lot though)

(7,099 posts)If it did the money totals would be much higher and there would be some countries present that are missing on the aid chart in your OP. I'm not sure if given weapons count as aid, though.

(363 posts)I am all for weapons/technology exchange with countries having democratically elected govt and have a responsible attitude in the past.
However, if you look at the image provided in the op, the top 10 countries are all unstable and doubtful past. Also as they are technologically weak in defence weapons, USA do not get any advantage just to give them billions of dollars of free weapons and tech to them.

(16,191 posts)If a situation is really so dire that a nation cannot stand without our aid, then we can use our own armies to help them. Funneling more weapons into the rest of the world simply fuels more conflict.
Israel is not a poor country, and it's home to some of the best weapons designers on the planet. They can defend themselves.
It fuels more conflict then the leaders use that as pretext for even more involvement. Awful cycle.
