A huge victory covering much of the South, from one of the most conservative circuits in the nation. Congratulations to hopeful LGBT couples in Virginia, Maryland, West Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina! #TheRightSideOfHistory

(11,589 posts)Because North Carolina is part of the 4th Circuit, the decision could impact the state's 2012 constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman.

(11,441 posts)Screw you, Tami!
"Anyone who believes that this decision in Virginia somehow strikes down North Carolina's Marriage Amendment is wrong. North Carolina's Marriage Amendment still stands, and no judge has found it unconstitutional," Fitzgerald said in a statement.

(5,158 posts)it's only a matter of time before she and her ilk will have to face the reality that marriage equality is coming to NC, and the entire nation, hopefully sooner rather than later.

(10,299 posts)This will irritate some people in the General Legislature, they were thinking of having their own attorney to defend cases the NC Attorney General won't.
So if NC gets sued, Roy Cooper won't be involved. Here's hoping he'll be the next NC governor.

But Alito has already tipped his hand in that direction.
The dominoes are falling, and the anti-LBGT forces have yet to win a federal case.

(31,373 posts)that North Carolinas constitutional amendment banning same sex marriage will almost surely be overturned.
He made the announcement following the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals ruling striking down Virginias prohibition on gay marriage today.
Simply put, its time to stop making arguments we will lose and instead move forward, knowing that the ultimate resolution will likely come from the U.S. Supreme Court, he said during a press conference.
