While I do not post much, I have been paying attention to many of the posts on Gaza as well as Ferguson. What strikes me the most when I consider the two battlegrounds, as different as they are in most respects, is the disproportionate response of the side with the greatest power.
These situations bring to mind how these governments / governmental units with great physical power use maximum force on the least of each places citizens or neighbors. I believe it was Hubert Humphrey who would look at these scenes and conclude these governments do not measure up morally by any reasonable standard. Just because they have the right to act, legally in an aggressive way does not mean they are acting in a just way.
Blasting tear gas and flash bangs in Ferguson because a single bottle is thrown at a police line is a ludicrously disproportionate response.
I cannot for the life of me figure out how we have let this happen; elected officials with absolutely no courage, common sense or moral compass. Somehow we have to get enough people to pay attention long enough to vote out these people. Our town could be next!
