Rick Perry denied their deliberations were tainted by politics Tuesday and said they were offended by the governor, his lawyers and his supporters casting their decision as based on anything other than the law.
Four jurors told the Houston Chronicle they carefully weighed the evidence and eschewed political considerations during their deliberations.
"We were asked to serve, we attended eight sessions over the course of five months, we listened to hours of evidence and we formed opinions, and those opinions were not motivated by politics," juror Scott Hillman said. "They were simply motivated by our understanding of the facts as applied to the law."
Hillman called the governor's comments in the days since last Friday's indictment "disrespectful."
"I see him laugh at these charges, and I think he's laughing at the process, and he's laughing at the grand jurors," Hillman said. "We took our role very, very seriously."

(19,372 posts)Having spent many years in the corporate environment, I've had the distinct pleasure of being in the same room with many self absorbed ignoramuses who had absolutey no clue what everyone else in the room was talking about. And every one of them had the same look on their face as Perry did in that room with PBO and staff. Priceless.

(53,661 posts)We used words, gestures and tone to make them feel complimented. I won't list the words, but they're obvious to anyone not looking for an ego stroke like Perry. That was how far their vision went, no further. Their chests puffed up and they'd leave with a big smile. In their minds, it was all about them and their little win.

(53,661 posts)I talked to one of the grand jurors taking on a case and they explained how many months it took. It was almost a year. I was in dread of being called for that...
Perry is doing with media support and his little cadre of Teapers, the work of a fascist. The jury is right when he says that the Governor does not respect the process. He acts like a demi-god, like most Teapers when they get in office. Lawless.

(2,672 posts)for abusing his power as governor? That's a felony and it's not big enough? What do you consider "something bigger"?

(51,550 posts)The criminal case against Perry centers on his coercion of a local elected official using threats and promises. It is not premisedas has been repeatedly misreportedon the veto itself.
