Rand Paul Calls Hillary Clinton 'A War Hawk'

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) called former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton a "war hawk" and added that if she decides to run for president in 2016 voters will question whether she wants to bring the U.S. into another war in the Middle East.

Paul, himself a potential 2016 candidate, made the comments during an appearance on NBC's Meet The Press.

"I think that's what scares the Democrats the most, is that in a general election, were I to run, there's going to be a lot of independents and even some Democrats who say, 'You know what? We are tired of war," Paul said, according to The Associated Press. "We're worried that Hillary Clinton will get us involved in another Middle Eastern war, because she's so gung-ho."

Clinton, when she served in the United States Senate, voted in favor of letting then-President George W. Bush have the authority to invade Iraq. Clinton, since then, has said she regrets making that vote.

Doubt that that sort of stuff would play well with the younger, predominantly Democratic voters.

IMO, the Congressional requirement was one of the better things the Framers came up with. (The Bill of Rights is cool, but that came from the Magna Carta and the Framers did not include that in the Constitution originally anyway.)

It's our tax money and our kids that fight wars. It should be not be the decision of one person, especially not one who may be a lame duck. (Since the Constitution was amended to limit Presidential terms, it is entirely possibly that one person who never has to answer to voters again can get us involved.)

IMO, the War Powers Act and the open ended AUMF are unconstitutional delegations of power by a spineless Congress, more interested in re-election than anything else.

Medical career

Paul has held a state-issued medical license since moving to Bowling Green in 1993.[22] He received his first job from Dr. John Downing of Downing McPeak Vision Centers, which brought him to Bowling Green after completing his residency. Paul worked for Downing for about five years before parting ways. Afterwards, he went to work at the Gilbert Graves Clinic, a private medical group in Bowling Green, for 10 years before creating his own practice in a converted one-story house across the street from Downing's office.[23] After his election to the U.S. Senate, he merged his practice with Downing's medical practice.[24] Paul has faced two malpractice lawsuits between 1993 and 2010; he was cleared in one case while the other was settled for $50,000.[23] Regardless, his medical work has been praised by Downing and he has medical privileges at two Bowling Green hospitals.[22][23] Paul specializes in cataract and glaucoma surgeries, LASIK procedures, and corneal transplants.[13] As a member of the Bowling Green Noon Lions Club, Paul founded the Southern Kentucky Lions Eye Clinic to help provide eye surgery and exams for those who cannot afford to pay.[25] Rand Paul won the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for Dedicated Humanitarian Services from the Lions Club International Foundation for his work establishing the Southern Kentucky Lions Eye Clinic.[26]
National Board of Ophthalmology

In 1995, Paul passed the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) boards on his first attempt and earned board-certification under the ABO for 10 years. In 1997, to protest the ABO's 1992 decision to grandfather in older ophthalmologists and not require them to be recertified every 10 years in order to maintain their status as board-certified practitioners, Paul, along with 200 other ophthalmologists, formed the National Board of Ophthalmology (NBO) to offer an alternative ophthalmology certification system.[27][28] The NBO was incorporated in 1999, but he allowed it to be dissolved in 2000 after not filing the required paperwork with the Kentucky Secretary of State's office. Paul later recreated the board in September 2005, three months before his original 10-year certification from the ABO lapsed. His ABO certification lapsed on December 31, 2005. Paul has since been certified by the NBO,[22] with himself as the organization's president, his wife as vice-president, and his father-in-law as secretary.[29] The ophthalmology board is not officially recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS).[22] The NBO was again dissolved on September 10, 2011.[30]

31. His "board certification" is a sham

Aug 2014

In the spring of 2010 stories first swirled around Sen. Rand Paul’s certification as an ophthalmologist by an outfit called the “National Ophthalmology Board,” an entity he founded. This week I discovered that while he continues to present himself as “board certified” the NOB has been out of business since 2011, and in any event, does not under Kentucky law permit him to advertise as “board certified.”

In 2010 Rand Paul explained that he formed the board in 1997 along with 200 young ophthalmologists to protest a decision by the American Board of Ophthalmologists to grandfather those who were certified by 1992, but to limit certification for a ten year period for those first certified after that date. Rand Paul fell within the latter group. He found that decision “discriminatory” and unfair so he set up the NOB along with his wife and father-in-law to certify himself. Despite calling itself “national,” it appears to have operated purely in Kentucky. The board remained in operation until 2000, when it was dissolved. It was reinstated in 2005. Since the certification story broke, the NOB again dissolved in 2011.

was trained as an opthamologist, not an optometrist, and does eye surgery, which optometrists do not do.

I am aware that he thinks he can certify himself, but that still does not make him an optometrist.

Rand Paul on Ferguson: "There is a very good chance that this had nothing to do with race."

"Let's say you're African-American and you live there, let's say none of this has to do with race. It might not, but the belief — if you're African-American and you live in Ferguson, the belief is, you see people in prison and they're mostly black and brown, that somehow it is racial, even if the thoughts that were going on at that time had nothing to do with race.http://www.democraticunderground.com/10025439015

"So it's a very good chance that had(sic) this had nothing to do with race, but because of all of the arrest and the way people were arrested, that everybody perceives it as, 'My goodness, the police are out to get us,' you know? And so that's why you have to change the whole war on drugs. It's not just this one instance."

More..

Our bad.. we only "perceive it" as such.. Only Rand Paul in his infinite wisdom knows what's going on here... and there's a "very good chance that this had nothing to do with race "

I like this from the comment section at the link..

"So some white guy from Kentucky is telling the black people in Ferguson that it’s all in their head. Rand Paul doesn’t know a dam thing about what it’s like to be black." anniebella
