(53,661 posts)And the Democrats are wrong and Libertarians are right posts when they never go after Repukes. I even saw 'people don't care about inequality' and a blanket statement of how the 'free market' resolves poverty with the list of errors from not following the rules of the sacred market in terms of equality.
We know what their version of 'liberty' and 'freedom' is, and it must set their hair on fire when they read us disrespect their 'sacred' words. I've suggested those posing as Democrats, attempting to set Dems against their candidate continuously, to embrace where their heart lies. They should push their party proudly instead of pulling the concern game. Of course, it's Rand's party.

(27,985 posts)I have several posts in my journal railing against (Ron) Paul when people here grossly misrepresent his positions. It gets especially hot and heavy he when DK aligns with a Paul.

Rand Paul and his daddy are hated by the GOP. I think that it is funny that the paul supporters think that he will get the GOP nomination. The GOP donor class control this process and that class hate rand paul and his daddy

(32,062 posts)accept Rand and/or Ron Paul. I still think they want Jeb Bush. He will do what they expect - cut taxes even more on the truly wealthy. That is all they care about at the end of the day.

(6,335 posts)Libertarians like the Pauls want completely open borders and want to get our military out of the mideast. And Liberts are pro-choice but the Pauls know they have to act like theyre anti-choice to get votes.

(43,867 posts)Quoting stevenleser:
1. Because of their belief in a small, weak central government, they don't want to pay taxes to fund them. (So the NSA would go, along with public education, the FDA and every other government program you hold near and dear. )
2. Out of a desire to see a small/weak central government, they adhere to a strict view of the Constitution that says that the President cannot act militarily at all without a congressional declaration of war.
3. They don't believe we should care about what happens to people in other countries and are isolationist from that viewpoint.
Now, it's possible that this is satisfactory or doesn't matter to some Progressives, or they would argue that the ends justify the means no matter how you get there. But it is yet another example of how Libertarianism and Progressivism have incompatibilities.
The way their beliefs translate into military and foreign policy in general becomes problematic. For instance:
Libertarians would not argue for the rights of women or LGBT in other countries. Libertarians dont think that is our business. For a lot of us on the left, that is problematic. I suppose if you are a straight white man and are lacking in empathy for those of color or women or LGBT that might be OK for you, but then are you really a progressive?
and OilemFirchen:
Save the decimated military to fight the negores, the wetbacks, the liberals and the joos. It's not really all that difficult to understand where he's coming from.
Vattel
(9,289 posts)I agree with Paul that the Constitution does not grant the President the power to put the nation into a state of war. But I also think (and I don't know if Paul agrees) that if another nation attacks us, then we are at war and the President, as CIC, can repel the attack without any authorization from Congress.
I am not against all humanitarian wars because I do care about the well-being and rights of others.

(5,632 posts)The smart troll knows to strike where you are weak. These trolls know where we are weak. A certain prominent Democrat has recently spoken very unwisely. It is easy to sow division when a legitimate divide has been thus created.
So we have to keep our focus. If we are activists, we need to focus on winning on the ground in 2014. As a Georgian, and a Democrat, I am trying support Michelle Nunn and Jason Carter to the best of my ability. Focus on your local candidates and party structure. Get out the damn vote. 2016 will sort itself out in due time.
Just my take.

(62,270 posts)If Rand Paul runs we can come to expect even worse. Amazing how racist bigot homophobes anti-civil rights dudes can be looked to by the left on a few small issues that, in fact, they don't agree with the bigots on.
Smart people unlocked this thread.

(53,032 posts)They are completely transparent. Just because they aren't PPR'd doesn't' mean they are good at what they do. The fact is there are a lot of right-wingers who pose as Democrats. Some even believe they are leftist. But when they take one right-wing position after another, it should come as no surprise they support a right-wing candidate for President. That is the nature of their world view.
To speak favorably of Paul is to advance a white male supremacist view of politics that privileges big business and treats the poor with contempt. People speak favorably of Baby Doc because they share his views. They are not people worth anyone's attention. There is no reason to treat them with anything other than the same level of contempt they demonstrate toward the majority of Americans.
