From Chicago, where the 11- and 12-year olds from Jackie Robinson West were celebrated for winning the US Little League Championship and second-best in the world:

(9,965 posts)Back in the 1980s, a team from the town where I lived then (Morristown, TN) were US champs. They only made the quarterfinals that year, but we loved them just as much. It's a small town so we couldn't do as much for them, obviously, as Chicago can do for their team, but there is a monument in the town and a Little League park named for them, and people still remember.

(180 posts)This team is fabulous and Chicago gave them a terrific parade when they came home, which they deserved.
Their parents can be so proud and take the credit for them being so well behaved, good sports, just nice young men. Most children today, aren't as well behaved or handle themselves like this team. I hope they will be the role models for their community and not the gangs.
Jesse Jackson is now starting to be in the news with the boys, horning in on the TEAMS day!
The politicians of Chicago were there at the parade, but made sure this was about the team and NOT their political campaigns.
Last night on the news, there's Jesse having his photo take with the boys.
Jackson's Operation Push said they'd pay for the team to go to Disney World, which is nice. Unfortunately, Jesse Jackson will probably tag along and milk it for all it's worth.
This is about a wonderful group of boys who won the U.S. Little League championship, NOT Jesse Jackson!

(8,911 posts)if these kids are treated by Jesse Jackson to Disney World,
the NCAA will revoke their amateur status for any university
education their athletic abilities might afford them.
