I am still in shock over the rape and death threats. I am beyond disgusted. I hope whoever made the threats is apprehended and jailed. It is a crime to make such threats. Last week redqueen had posted about the misogyny in GD - and then she left. I think I'm with seabeyond on this.

I'm not as well thought or written as RQ on Feminist Issues - but I'm not backing down.

Yesterday someone dumped a pile of shit in a thread in HOF - I alerted. I explained why in the alert and I put it out on the thread that I had done so.i think MIRT got the snot out.

I think we need to to start being transparent ourselves - to force transparency at DU. I want to know who alerts on seabeyond. And on others too.

Time to woman up and man up and own our words here. If someone is afraid that they will be retaliated against for alerting or serving on a jury - then that goes to the culture of the online community. This is not the civil or criminal justice system here - its a little message board.

I serve on juries a lot - going forward I will ALWAYS sign my name to my vote. Maybe that will start to smoke out the people who get up every morning - log on to DU - search for posts by certain members and hit the "alert" button for shits and giggles.

I served on a jury yesterday for a pst by seabeyond that was the stupidest effin alert I have ever seen. Thank God the post stood.

7. The jury system is really bad

So many good DUérs gone because of bad jury decisions and people just plain leaving out of frustration. I lurk a lot and I am afraid to post. I will not be silent anymore. I am a mother with 2 daughters and have been beaten by men. I was raped by a husband and was told it wasn't rape because we were married and I believed him.

I have clicked over to Discussionist occasionally when someone provides a link and there is truly vile content on that site. It's better here and we continue to stand our ground and fight back when we need to - as we do against all forms of oppression.

Crimes need to be reported. The site owners need to step up and stop this now. They need to understand these threats are crimes. In addition, these threats could be politically motivated to cripple another progressive forum. If they do not act to protect the forum members from these crimes, then they are being manipulated to harm their own interests, as well. Criminal threats of bodily harm should be reported to the law enforcement authorities asap.

It's amazing considering this happened. I had multiple comments removed from a post yesterday about racism. Not my comments but comments on the post. Some were removed so quickly I didn't see them. Others were up for a while and I still can't figure out why they were hidden. Makes no sense.
