Fidel Castro compares NATO to Nazis, lashes out at US

- AFP/de

HAVANA: Cuban ex-president Fidel Castro lashed out at the United States and Europe on Monday (Sep 1), accusing them of war-mongering and comparing the NATO military alliance's representatives to the Nazi SS.

In a tortuous column published in Cuban state media, the father of the island's communist revolution also attacked US Senator John McCain over United States policy in the Middle East, calling him "Israel's most unconditional ally."

"The world has seen no respite in recent years, particularly since the European Economic Community, under the strict and unconditional leadership of the United States, decided the time had come to settle scores with what was left of two great nations (Russia and China) that ... had carried out the heroic deed of putting an end to the imperialist colonial order imposed on the world by Europe and the United States," said the 88-year-old leader.

He accused the West of "cynicism" and said the trait had become "a symbol of imperialist policy." He singled out McCain, the 2008 Republican presidential candidate, saying he had supported Israel's Mossad intelligence agency and "participated together with that service in the creation of the Islamic State, which today controls a considerable and vital portion of Iraq and reportedly one-third of Syria as well."

Turning to NATO, Castro said the alliance's representatives were reminiscent of Nazi Germany's feared SS. "Many people are astonished when they hear the statements made by some European spokesmen for NATO when they speak with the style and face of the Nazi SS," he said.

but, in terms of international politics, of course he has no compunction in supporting all kinds of hideous human rights abuses abroad if conducted by his allies. Very much like the US in that regard.

a 1st world spy organization that ran rings around the US for quite some time. The US had no idea what was going on until people started to defect from Cuba.

Castro's Secrets: Cuban Intelligence, The CIA, and the Assassination of John F. Kennedy [Kindle Edition]
Brian Latell

In CASTRO'S SECRETS, highly acclaimed author and intelligence expert Brian Latell offers a strikingly original view of Fidel Castro in his role as Cuba's supreme spymaster. Based on interviews with high level defectors from Cuba's powerful intelligence and security services, long-buried secrets of Fidel's nearly 50-year reign are exposed for the first time. They include numerous assassinations and attempted ones carried out on Castro's orders, some against foreign leaders. More than a dozen ranking Cuban secret agents embraced by the CIA and FBI speak in these pages; some have never told their stories on the record before. Latell also probes dispassionately into the CIA's most deplorable plots against Cuba - including previously obscure schemes to assassinate Castro - and presents shocking new conclusions about what Fidel actually knew of Lee Harvey Oswald prior to the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

Does Cuba have problems with race - yes but nothing like that crap suggests.
Re fighting apartheid - the Cubans walked the walk while members of your government supported apartheid openly.

You can try and deny it but the fact remains --

Racism in Cuba has been concealed and reinforced in part because it isn’t talked about. The government hasn’t allowed racial prejudice to be debated or confronted politically or culturally, often pretending instead as though it didn’t exist. Before 1990, black Cubans suffered a paralysis of economic mobility while, paradoxically, the government decreed the end of racism in speeches and publications. To question the extent of racial progress was tantamount to a counterrevolutionary act. This made it almost impossible to point out the obvious: racism is alive and well.

...

An important first step would be to finally get an accurate official count of Afro-Cubans. The black population in Cuba is far larger than the spurious numbers of the most recent censuses. The number of blacks on the street undermines, in the most obvious way, the numerical fraud that puts us at less than one-fifth of the population. Many people forget that in Cuba, a drop of white blood can — if only on paper — make a mestizo, or white person, out of someone who in social reality falls into neither of those categories. Here, the nuances governing skin color are a tragicomedy that hides longstanding racial conflicts.

At least when the US came up with the 3/5ths compromise it was to keep the slave-owning states from grabbing disproportionate representation by counting slaves who were not able to vote. In Cuba they just just don't count people of color because the racists think people of color don't count.

Denying/excusing racism because a dictatorship offers "free" healthcare and other social programs is not Progressive.

Physician, heal thyself - progressive is not addressing the racism in your own country. Cuba fought against apartheid and that's a fact.

After the revolution the US immigration policy towards Cuba facilitated whites only - still does.

They just couldn't keep up with US military spending.

Continuing to be involved in an excessive number of military actions can also have a deleterious impact on a country as well. The fall of the British Empire is a good example.

The genius of these modern Nazi military planners is that they figured out a way to attack Ukraine from the east. The last generations Nazis attacked Ukraine from the west. I bet Ukraine never expected the change in tactics and were expecting the Nazis to come from the west again.
