I wouldn't say he is not a flight risk, but probably no more so than many they grant bail to. He'd have difficulty leaving the country, regardless.

So, yeah, he'll get bail.

For instance, if I poisoned my wife with arsenic over months to collect on a life insurance policy I am probably not a great threat to the general public... unless I have insurance policies on everyone.

On the other hand, someone who kills a person in a bar fight charged with manslaughter because he was out of control is somebody who may kill people at random because he is out of control.

Zimmerman does seem like a danger given his very low level of perceived "self defense."

I would give him bail with an ankle braclet and take away his gun as a condition of bail. But that would probably be some second amendment "outrage" and may be out of the question in Florida.

i believe that he is now a prohibited person, on a federal level. I could be wrong on that and it may take an indictment to raise him to the level of prohibited person, either way , once a charge of a violent felony is laid , it is pretty much standard practice in most jurisdictions to remove any and all guns from the persons home.

You guys are really disturbed by the charges arena't you. Tell you what, let's see him get the same kind of bail that a black murder defendant gets. Okay?

It seems LE was aware of his location. He didnt try to flee or resist arrest. He has parents and wife in the area. I doubt he has has resources to flee and live on the run. He is not facing the death penalty. I would expect that bail would be high, but would be set.

Besides Zimmerman might want jail protection -- away from general population, of course.

Love comment above about Zimmerman's guns if he were released. I wonder what NRA backed laws protect his right to a gun until convicted. Hope judge has rational perspective on guns.

...on her manslaughter charge (tow truck driver dragging death). She remains, in fact, out on bail for her sentencing.

edit: oops, I didn't complete my thought; 2nd degree murder? No, I don't think he should get bail. That means in some way the guy was out to murder someone:

In FL for a 2nd degree murder charge you must prove:

The victim is dead;
The death was caused by the criminal act of the defendant;
There was an unlawful killing of the victim by an act imminently dangerous to another and demonstrating a depraved mind without regard for human life.

Zimmerman did not regard the life of this young man who had but a can of iced tea and a pack of skittles.

And not some silly 600 million dollar bond for sport.
Just give him a speedy trial.
Plus there is a bounty out for his head on a platter.
