Dear Ann, About that "Choice"

.........................
Guess what, Ann?
I paid for my own college. I started working in a restaurant when I was still 14 years old.
I don't have a Cadillac. My last 4 cars have been hand me downs from the in laws. I have never ridden a horse. I have never owned a vacation home.
If only every single family in the US had the ability to make the choice that you made.
Your problem isn't that you stayed at home. Your problem is that you don't understand that it is well within our power to make it so that everyone can have the opportunity to make that choice.
You and your husband are the American Family Wrecking Crew.

Whether or not to have one person stay at home with the children is a decision every couple has to make for itself. If one of them doesn't have skills that pay all that well in the marketplace it may be more cost-effective than paying all one's income on childcare. And with a number of children the constant cleaning, childcare, meal preparation and other daily activities can easily take up 40+ hours every week. And if the at-home person wants to contribute to the community by, say, volunteering at the local library or food bank or whatever, more power to them. But Mrs. Romney needs to recognize that a lot of people, unlike herself, manage to do this without the aid of any staff

(28,498 posts)My wife and I received emails announcing an important PTA "brown bag" meeting next week to speak with high school officials about what to expect. Yeah, "brown bag" -- it's from noon to 1pm. Bring your lunch!
Noon to 1pm? What about us working parents? Why can't the meeting be in the evening when more working parents could attend?
Oh, probably the "Anns" of the school district don't want their evening routine disrupted.
Being able to decide to stay home with your kid is a privilege that most cannot afford. Both my husband and I need to work in order to afford to get by each month. We live in a tiny two bedroom apartment, but do the best we can to care for our kids always putting them first. Being involved with their school is difficult with our work schedule. We keep our kids up until ten every night so we can help with homework and have time with them. We're doing our best. I'm sure you and your wife are as well. I totally understand your frustration.

(50,387 posts)women's choices should be respected while her husband is in support of policies and legislation that refuses to respect women's choices with respect to privacy, healthcare, etc, and want to take away women's rights in almost every way.
Appalling hypocrisy on her part, no surprise there.

(95,337 posts)Because I think any of us would love to have stayed at home and pay someone else to raise our kids and clean our house and mow our lawn while we could have fun horseback riding on expensive horses or vacation in one of our many vacation homes.

(1,698 posts)Tell ol' Annie to give us a call when her husband loses this election and the sun's not especially shining on them. That is the closest she will ever emotionally get to the daily disappointments and challenges women face in this country every day. She has never known, and will never know that sinking feeling in your stomach of not knowing if, when or where the next meal is coming from, money to pay a bill, fix the car, or the toilet. She has never suffered through being sick knowing she couldn't go to the doctor because she didn't have insurance coverage or money to pay for the doctor's visit. Who gave that heffa a microphone and asked her any damned thing?!!!! I'm getting more and more pissed every time I think about her daring to represent me, my daughter and granddaughters! Tell Annie Sunshine one of her Cadillacs is calling her.

(3,190 posts)The problem with people like her is that they have lived a life of privilege for so long that they are incapable of identifying with real everyday people (the vast majority in this country and world) who have to struggle for the simple necessities of life.
It's the very same mentality we were supposed to get away from 200+ years ago (the aristocracies of Europe). What ever happened to "by the people, for the people"?

(2,830 posts)The righties aren't going to drop it. They are trying to toss the hot potato of their "War on Women" into the Dems' laps.
I don't think that women are going to buy what their selling this time around.
