Group demands Zimmerman's gun permit be yanked, again

The Florida Civil Rights Association is demanding, yet again, that state officials yank George Zimmerman's gun permit following his arrest on second degree murder charges.

The group is holding a news conference at 11 a.m. outside the state's Division of Licensing in downtown Orlando. Speakers will include local civil rights attorneys and former prosecutors.

This is the second time the organization has asked the state to review and revoke Zimmerman's concealed weapons permit, saying he is in a danger to the public.

The 28-year-old, who shot an unarmed Miami teenager to death, was charged with second degree murder and is currently being held at the Seminole County jail.

1. Makes sense. You lose possession of your firearms when there's a TRO (temporary restraining order)

in place and you can get them back if you can avoid a final restraining order.

2. I don't think the permit will do him much good until and unless

he is released on bail. And if so, then I'd hope it would automatically be revoked or suspended.

3. Somehow, I think losing his gun will send a bigger message than spending time in jail.

It's like a public castration.

Until such time has he was actually arrested for a felony, there was no legal method in Florida to revoke his permit.

Seems to take away any constitutional rights of innocent until proven guilty.

6. What I read is that in Florida, one only has to be charged or arrested for a felony.

I imagine this is done to prevent circumstances such as of an accused bank robber out on bail legally walking around with a concealed weapon.
