Tiana Ramos' Naughty Girls Donut Shop sells gourmet doughnuts like this s'mores-flavored one.

An entrepreneurial teenager in Virginia was surprised when her gourmet doughnut shop provoked outrage from a local conservative group who accused her of promoting promiscuity.
According to Mommyish, Tiana Ramos started Naughty Girls Doughnut Shop in Front Royal, Va., when she was just 16 years old. The restaurant has a rockabilly theme, with pictures of Marilyn Monroe and Bettie Page on the walls, and the logo features a 1940s-style pin-up girl drawing. But the shops name and aesthetic irked some locals, and within a week of the store opening someone drove by and threw garbage at the door.
They literally threw trash at the door and said, Naughty girls burn in hell, said Tianas mother, Natalie Ramos. I started bawling, right there.
A self-styled Conservative Alliance in the town has threatened a boycott, and some people have been posting negative reviews on Yelp that accused the staff of looking like hussies.

Hell, if some dipshit conservative throwing garbage at the door is the worst undertaking, then congrats to you kid! I'm kind of amazed that this sort has discovered the internet and made trashing this place on Yelp their thing. I mean, seriously, if you're looking to rid the world of "hussies" on the internet, yeah, this is the most bang-for-your-buck thing.
Idiots.

But as they persisted asking him, he stood up and he said to them, He among you who is without sin, let him first cast a stone upon her.

Double this if the church was one of those annoying "Christian" business that violate their founders admonition to keep their religion private. (4,138 posts)Creative gourmet donughts with a rockabilly theme called Naughty Girls, run by an entrepreneurial teenager who sources locally and puts profits back into the community? She'd make a mint here. (For that matter, she could probably do the same in Alexandria or Adams-Morgan without having to move all the way across the country)
I bet her parents are proud. She sounds like an amazing kid.

(19,964 posts)The town's original name was "Helltown". No kidding. It was the most xenophobic place my wife & I have ever lived and between the two of us, we've seen quite a bit of the country. In fact, we still remark that there was something eerily dark about the place, as if the whole town wore a shroud of meanness. I know that sounds utterly stupid but I don't know how else to describe it. We were so glad to get out of there!

(2,004 posts)Your statement makes sense to me. Some communities have a very odd vibe, while there may be many very nice people who live there. It is not something that is easily described.
I wonder if there is any research about this.

(21,046 posts)And different vibes in different neighborhoods.
I once posted here about the bad vibes I felt in New Orleans in the French Quarter with all the bars, strip joints and drunken tourists, and I got slammed for it. I was not supposed to bring up what I felt. I was ordered to basically STFU. And I was not supposed to use the word "vibes" according to some moral policeman at DU, because I'm not a Christian, or a New Age Space Cadet, or something. I don't really know. Just a senseless attack.

(45,251 posts)I will worry about whether her shop is politically incorrect as to women or whether I will go to hell for coveting her baked goods. Right now, all I can think about is how good that smore's confection looks. If that is her work, she is clearly gifted and smart.
Meanwhile, how much do you think this publicity is worth to a fledging shop? She just might put Helltown on the map!
theHandpuppet
(19,964 posts)I'm curious why you even made that remark. It appears the opposition to the shop was made by a conservative religious group and it's not one, I suspect, that would be at all sympathetic to women's rights. If that was a swipe at feminists here it wasn't appreciated and I hope I misread your intent.

(45,251 posts)I didn't think the person who posted that was serious and my reference was not intended to be taken literally or seriously, just as my reference to going to hell for coveting her baked goods was not intended to be taken literally or seriously.
as far as being anti-women's rights, I'll stand on my posting record.
BTW, I don't think whether something is politically incorrect as to women is determined by whether a religious group is opposing it or not. Many religious groups seem quite fine with a lot of things that I consider anti-women.

From the Naughty Girls site:
First of all, paying employees well just has to be Satanic, and that in itself is enough to drive the crazies crazier.
The Raw Story article mentions that the staff has heard this:
LOL! Let the haters go to Hooters. I want a Chunky Monkey doughnut!
