You may be entitled to your own opinion...

You are NOT entitled to your own facts.

Promoting dangerous ideologies, like the anti-vaxx crowd, and Andrew Wakefield is dangerous, and shouldn't be tolerated.
Shrugging it off as difference of opinion is dishonest. There is no opinion. There is only fact when it comes to stuff like this.

If you are anti-vaccine, you ARE an enemy of the people. Plain and simple. This IS a black and white situation. There is no middle ground. It is the anti-vax crowd that has brought back wonderful diseases like measles and pertussis into the public sphere.

Vaccines DO NOT cause autism. The current vaccination schedule is not a terrible thing (there are terrible fucking diseases out there).

He just reposted this same thread that he had locked.

This is the definition of disruptive.

You served on a randomly-selected Jury of DU members which reviewed this post. The review was completed at Sun Sep 14, 2014, 11:44 AM, and the Jury voted 2-5 to LEAVE IT.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: This is not the same thread - the part that got the other post locked has been excluded, as suggested by the locking Host. Please read a bit more carefully before hitting the Alert button.
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Mod will lock it.
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: That's the Hosts job. There is nothing wrong with this OP. It shouldn't be locked IMHO.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #6 voted to HIDE IT
Explanation: No explanation given
Juror #7 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE
Explanation: Let the hosts take care of it- this is not rude or OTT, it is merely anti woo bullshit. It's the hosts job to judge for woo, not the jury's.

Thank you very much for participating in our Jury system, and we hope you will be able to participate again in the future.

Anti-vaxxers / Wakefield defenders should be treated exactly the same at DU as chemtrailers. They should have posting privileges revoked, under the Crazy Talk section of the Terms of Service.

Don't go overboard with the crazy talk.
Democratic Underground is not intended to be a platform for kooks and crackpots peddling paranoid fantasies with little or no basis in fact. To accommodate our more imaginative members we tolerate some limited discussion of so-called "conspiracy theories" under the following circumstances: First, those discussions are not permitted in our heavily-trafficked Main forums; and second, those discussions cannot stray too far into Crazyland (eg: chemtrails, black helicopters, 9/11 death rays or holograms, the "New World Order," the Bilderbergers, the Illuminati, the Trilateral Commission, the Freemasons, alien abduction, Bigfoot, and the like). In addition, please be aware that many conspiracy theories have roots in racism and anti-semitism, and Democratic Underground has zero tolerance for bigoted hate speech. In short, you take your chances.

And, because I'm not starting a thread to complain about jury results, I'm allowed to complain about jury results. People complain about jury results inside of threads all the time.

The post you had hidden was a horrible hide. Anti-vaxxers are allowed to post all manner of bullshit, including links to horseshit CT medical woo sites and glowing defenses of fraudulent whackjobs like Andrew Wakefield. Calling them out on their astounding dumbassery, however, gets you hidden.

VAXX science and it merits, it must be decided based on science and whats best for public health.

The battle is to make Pharma even more in the public interest: find better solutions to this stupid, hypocritical and dangerous game with Opiates and legalize Marijuana, at least for medical use, in all 50 states.

I'm talking about vaccinations. Vaccinations are decided based on science, and ARE what's best for public health.

What that has to do with opiates and legal weed (which, by the way, I do support legal weed, but that's because it gets you high, not because of some medical cure-all) is beyond me.

...no brainer so we are good there.

I was then attempting to point out that the criticism of Big Pharma that often underlies anti-vaxx is better directed at reforming its worst aspects. Big Pharmas paid advocacy against marijuana is a well documented aspect.

And I am an ardent sponsor of legitimate research into its medical applications, as are such non-woo institutions as this UCSD center:

For most of us, measles and whooping cough are diseases of the past. You get a few shots as a kid and then hardly think about them again.

But that's not the case in all parts of the world — not even parts of the U.S.

"facts" are nothing more than opinions anyway.

"Fact" last year: Studies show that eggs are bad for you

"Fact" six months ago: Studies show that eggs are not bad for you

"Fact" last week: Studies show that eggs are bad for you (again).

My point is that often, the "facts" totally contradict each other and their rightness or wrongness depends on what side of the "facts" one chooses to believe.

Do vaccines cause Autism? Who the hell even knows for sure whether or not a very very tiny percentage of cases of Autism might be caused by vaccines?

Note...I said MIGHT.

I personally don't believe they do, and that it's pretty safe to get the vaccines.

But I'm also willing to see the point of the anti-vaxxers.

28. The problem with that line of thinking is this:
Sun Sep 14, 2014, 12:41 PM
Sep 2014

Andrew Wakefield decided he wanted to market HIS version of the MMR vaccine. So, he faked a study to try to connect popular vaccines with autism. His study was discredited, he lost his license, and then left the UK for America.

AFTER his study was discredited, assholes like Jenny McCarthy and RFK Jr start to run with his discredited study, purporting it to be true.

Other studies are done. MANY other studies. Results are NO link between vaccination and autism.

It's not an opinion. It is fact. There is ZERO link between vaccination and autism. Matter of fact, they've recently found that autism begins in the womb.

I am not willing to see the point of anti-vaxxers, just as I'm not willing to see the point of climate change deniers or holocaust deniers. Why? Because they have no point. EVERY ISSUE they bring up has been thoroughly debunked.
