"As you walk on your streets, turning right and left, fearing the Muslims ... you will not feel secure, even in your bedrooms ... we will strike you in your homeland."
Muhammad Al Adanani, Spokesman for the 'Islamic State' 9/22.
We will conquer your Rome, break your crosses, and enslave your women, by the permission of Allah, the Exalted. This is His promise to us... If we do not reach that time, then our children and grandchildren will reach it, and they will sell your sons as slaves at the slave market ...
(Crusaders) ... you will pay a great price. You will pay the price when your economies collapse. You will pay the price when your sons are sent to wage war against us and they return to you as disabled amputees, or inside coffins, or mentally ill. You will pay the price as you are afraid of travelling to any land. Rather you will pay the price as you walk on your streets, turning right and left, fearing the Muslims. You will not feel secure even in your bedrooms. You will pay the price when this crusade of yours collapses, and thereafter we will strike you in your homeland, and you will never be able to harm anyone afterwards. You will pay the price, and we have prepared for you what will pain you.

CJCRANE
(18,184 posts)that has been given an enormous amount of help by various countries, rich individuals and social media.
denem
(11,045 posts)as an Al-Qaeda operation in 2004. They took the name A' Qaeda in Iraq. At that time, they were supported by Al-Qaeda central. No more, no less. The Iraq State of Iraq split from Al-Qaeda in 2007 after al-Zarqawi.
CJCRANE
(18,184 posts)Who funded them, trained them, armed them, helped them grow via social media etc?
cali
(114,904 posts)and I hate to break it to you, but there are lots of "clear and present" dangers.
denem
(11,045 posts)2. They have the financial resources - $400m+
3. They have military resources/expertise
4. They have 30,000 experienced combatants
5. They are being bombed by the US
7. They have an ideology that justifies an (counter) attack.
So ... why do you think they do not mean it?
They have the motivation, the means
and made a statement to their followers world wide,
If this is not a clear and present danger, by a non state actor,
what is?
CJCRANE
(18,184 posts)so you might as well get your money's worth in fear and terror if that's what you enjoy.

but booga wooga fear fear fear. I pity people who cringe in terror.
denem
(11,045 posts)They have the money, motivation, man power and militancy to hit the US - and they have said - just said - they want to do it. What more could you want? Seriously? Put it another way: if a well funded, well armed, experienced militant operation said we are going to hit your homeland - and you/congress/the executive ignored it. Then there was a big hit. There would be hell to pay. Why? Because like Bin Laden determined to hit inside the US, it was a clear and present danger.
cali
(114,904 posts)furthermore, do you really think it's that easy to hit the U.S., post-9/11?
but I suppose you know more than the experts both within and outside of government. Nor am I suggesting ignoring ISIS, but does it ever occur to you that what we're doing in response to ISIS may make everything worse? We have recent history to enable us to see that military intervention over the past 10+ years has been disastrous. The "unforeseeable consequences" aren't really so unforeseeable. Our military interventions in Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya have been a cluster fuck. Why on earth would you think that this time we'll have different results?
denem
(11,045 posts)Their spokesman says we will hit your homeland. Let's leave it there. Peace.
cali
(114,904 posts)I'm afraid I find the kind of fear mongering that you're engaged in, really disturbing.
denem
(11,045 posts)can you give me an example of a non state actor who fits the bill. You are asking me to prove a negative: Prove that ISIS is not determined, is not able to strike within the United States. It's a dead end. Post anything more without my collaboration. EOM.
CJCRANE
(18,184 posts)like they told us too.
cali
(114,904 posts)implementing measures that should make it difficult for any kind of massive attack on the U.S.
we have plenty of reason to believe that military intervention will make things worse and more dangerous. Evidence in the form of the results of our military actions in the region. We have zero evidence leading us to believe that military intervention will make us safer.
have fun with your quivering fear and fear peddling.

Britain is a HQ for the hate preachers and France is full of radicals.
What's stopping them from doing something right now?
Plus these guys returning from Turkey and the Middle East will be much more conspicuous.

(904 posts)The preacher/radical is just talking (for the most part) but an ISIS member has already put those words into action.

(18,184 posts)The post I was replying to referenced "Conan the Barbarian" and the similarity with the extremist rhetoric.
A lot of the foreign fighters are westerners brought up on playing video games about soldiers and warriors etc. Hence my reference to the recruitment methods and memes.

(14,549 posts)ISIS seems to be goading, specifically, the countries who are reluctant to join the coalition: Australia, France ("spiteful and filthy" , Germany, Obama ("mule" and Kerry ("uncircumcised geezer" .
Curiously, insults for McCain, Lindsey Graham, Turkey and the Saudi have been lacking.

(62,325 posts)even heard of them, at least with their current name tag, which appears to be changing by the minute until a few weeks ago. The propaganda has been intense, just like 2003.
The West ignored the violence in Iraq under Maliki until they didn't get their way in Syria.
So now, we are told we have to repeat what caused all this in the first place.
The British Empire has been meddling in the ME for eons, creating unnatural borders etc that any fool would have known could never work without installing Dictators. Which they did, of course.
I wonder who is influencing who here, the old, dying British Empire using the 'new world's' power to continue their failed policies, or the 'new world' using the old British Empire's 'experience' to build its own Empire which of course means grabbing the resources of every nation on earth?
